The thickness of auto LPG tanks is twice that of gasoline tanks ……
Every auto lpg tank undergoes tightness testing at a pressure approximately 2.5 times that of the working pressure.
The laboratory also tests tank samples from every production batch. Non-destructive and destructive tests, such as X-ray film examination, tensile test and bending test, and examination of the weld sections are all performed. The lot can only be accepted if all the tests come back positive. The tear test is one such test. In this test, the tank is placed under high pressure until it bursts. This test can expose the auto tank to pressures up to 12 times greater than what it will experience in real life.
LPG tanks for auto use can last a legal 10 year if they are manufactured and tested in compliance with European norms. Even if they seem to be in excellent condition, auto tanks should be replaced when they reach the end of their useful life.
