What are the symptoms for transmission lug (chock), malfunction? Why is the gearbox ear deteriorating? What is a “gearbox ear”?

The gearbox ear is a component of a vehicle that supports the transmission. It is made from rubber on the inside and steel on the outside and prevents the transmission’s vibration and making noise while it is running. The transmission is attached to the vehicle’s frame by a steel bracket. The rubber or polyurethane buffer isolates vibrations and reduces noise levels inside the vehicle. The rubber bushing is inseparable from the bracket. It cannot be fixed. If any part of the unit is damaged or worn, it must be replaced.

A majority of vehicles have at most two to three motor mounts and one or more transmission mounts. Also known as transmission mount.

If the transmission lug breaks, the first symptoms are vibration and irritating noise. Other problems can occur if the transmission lug is not repaired. These issues can be addressed immediately.

Wobble

Your vehicle may shake when you accelerate due to a faulty transmission mount. Most of the shaking is on the passenger side. This shaking is most commonly caused by broken transmission links. However, worn or damaged rubber Bushings may also cause it. Transmissions that are completely disconnected can cause them to slip under sudden acceleration. This can lead to knocking and squealing sounds. Transmissions that slip excessively can cause damage to other components.

Sound / Vibration

If the rubber blocks connecting the vehicle’s chassis to the transmission connection are damaged or broken, you may be exposed to unusual sounds and vibrations. A clicking noise is the most common sign that a worn transmission ear has developed. In direct proportion to vehicle speed, the level of sound or vibration will rise. You may hear the transmission shifting into gear in some cases.

Rubber on the transmission link absorbs vibrations from the engine and transmission. In the event that the transmission mount is damaged, vibrations could travel through the chassis and into the vehicle’s cabin.

Rupture & Fall

If the transmission mount is damaged or not repaired, it can cause the transmission to fall. This is an expensive and complicated situation that requires extensive repair.

Why Does the Gearbox Ear Crack?

  • – Gearbox lugs can fail after more than 80-100 million kilometers due to vibrations and oxidation.
  • – Oil leakage and oxidation can cause rubber or polyurethane material deterioration and rot.
  • Vibrations can deform the steel bracket.
  • Humidity and road salt can cause transmission lug to deform.
  • Incorrect lifting of engine and gearbox during disassembly can cause the gearbox ears break.
  • Transmission lugs could be damaged from impacts or accidents at the front of your vehicle.
