What is the P000D fault number? What is the description of the Exhaust “B” Camshaft Position Slow Response (Bank 2) malfunction? How can you fix the fault code P000D? What are the causes and symptoms of the P000D error code?
What is the P000D fault code? What does it signify?
Variable valve timing (VVT), which is a modern technology, can be used to increase engine performance and fuel efficiency. Your vehicle’s main computer will log an error code in its on-board diagnostics if it detects problems in the operation or the VVT system. P000D is one of these codes.
To determine camshaft position, the powertrain control module (PCM), relies on data from the camshaft positioning sensor. It then compares the information to determine whether the engine is properly timing. The PCM controls the solenoid-operated oil valves that control the camshaft position. Oil control valve adjusts the camshaft angle by applying oil pressure to an actuator located between the camshaft’s timing chain sprocket.
If the actual position or delay of the camshaft is not what was expected, fault code P000D can be set. “Bank 2”, in the code description, indicates that the engine bank does not include cylinder 1, and “B”, indicates that the right or rear exhaust crankshaft.
The vehicle manufacturer may have different codes and diagnostic methods. This code can be found on many vehicles, including Subaru (especially Subaru Wrx STI), Dodge, Chevrolet and VW.
What causes the P000D Fault code?
- – Low engine oils
- – Oil with an insufficient viscosity.
- – Limitation in oil passages
- Low oil pressure
- – Defective variable valve timing (VVT) actuator (phaser)
- – Defective oil control valve (OCV)
- – Wearned or loose timing chains
- Defective timing chains tensioner or guides
- – In the OCV circuit, damaged wires or loose connector terminals
- – Defective camshaft position sensor
- – Failure of PCM/ECM
What are the symptoms for P000D Fault Codes?
- – Illumination for the check engine light
- – Low engine performance
- – Clicking sound emanating from engine
- – A rise in emission values
How to Fix the P000D Fault Code
- To determine if the vehicle will return, the codes must first be cleared.
- – Check your engine oil pressure. If the oil level is not correct, it should be replaced. Oil filters should be changed together with dirty or low viscosity oil.
- If oil levels are normal, visually inspect the camshaft position sensor and oil control solenoid. You may have loose connections or damaged cables. Check to see if it’s there. Repair any damage, and then clear the code to see if it comes back.
- – Test the camshaft position sensor and replace it if it fails
- – Test the solenoid for camshaft oil control and replace it if it’s defective
- – Clean the oil pump filter, oil passage channels and oil pump filter
- – Replacing an oil pump
- – Replacing VVT actuator
- – Replacing your timing chain
