What is P0026 fault code? What is the description for the Intake Valve Control Solenoid Circuit Range/Performance Bank 1 failure? How can you fix the P0026 fault code What are the symptoms and causes for the P0026 fault code

What is the P0026 Fault code? What does it stand for?

Automotive technology has evolved significantly over the years. In internal combustion engines, the two most significant innovations are the incorporation variable valve timing technology (VVT) as well as variable valve lift (VVL). VVT or VVL system components may fail, just like other parts of the engine. P0026 is one diagnostic trouble code that indicates an issue in the operation or functioning of these systems.

A code P0026 stands for “Intake Valve Control Solenoid Circuit Range/Performance (Bank 1).” This code can be activated on vehicles that have the VVT/or VVL system. This code is set by powertrain control module, PCM, when the actual camshaft position differs from its expected. This is due to a malfunction in the VVT solenoid. This indicates that the VVT solenoid is not activating or taking too long.

Vehicles with VVL systems will have fault code P0026 if the oil pressure switch remains in the “on”, or “off”, position for too long.

“Bank 1” means that there is a fault in the engine cylinder 1 side. In most vehicles, the intake valve solenoid is located on the intake manifold of the cylinderhead.

The P0026 fault code can affect a variety of Subaru models, including the Subaru Impreza, Volvo, Ford, Hyundai and Kia.

What is the P0026 Fault Code and Why Does It Happen?

  • – Low engine oil
  • – Engine oil with a low viscosity or dirtiness
  • – Clogged oil lines
  • – A defective VVL oil pressure switch
  • – VVL oil control solenoid defective
  • – VVT oil control solenoid defective
  • – Defective VVT actuator
  • – Problems with the intake valve solenoid circuit, such as damaged wiring and loose connections
  • – Timing chain/timing belt misaligned or loose
  • – A PCM that is not working or requires software updates

What are the symptoms of the P0026 Fault Code?

  • – Illumination for the check engine light
  • – Insufficient power for acceleration
  • – Reduced engine performance
  • – Engine stalling, hard starting or irregular running
  • – Increased fuel consumption

How do I fix the P0026 fault code?

  • – To find out if the fault is returning, first clear all codes. Then perform a road test.
  • Check the engine oil level and replace any that is not present.
  • – The oil filter must also be changed if the engine oil is not clean or of the correct viscosity.
  • If the solenoid of the intake valve is defective, it should be replaced.
  • – Reparing damaged wiring or loose connections to the intake solenoid
  • – Replacing damaged or loose timing chains or timing belts
  • – Reparing or replacing the PCM connector

How Serious Is the P0026 Fault Coding?

This fault code can cause engine performance to decrease and other problems depending on camshaft position. If the engine is running erratically or if you notice symptoms like stalling or hard starting, your driving safety could be compromised. The fault must be fixed immediately.
