What is the P0047 fault number? Turbo/Super Charge Boost Control “A” Circuit Low Input fault description? How can you fix P0047 fault code What are the causes and symptoms of the P0047 error code?

What is the P0047 fault code? What does it signify?

A malfunction code P0047 can be issued if the powertrain controller module (PCM), detects an out of range or abnormally low operating value within the turbocharger or supercharger booster control solenoid “A”.

Modern turbocharged vehicles have variable geometry turbochargers (VGT) technology. The VGT system has adjustable vanes that can be opened and shut to alter boost pressure. These blades can be used to control the turbo independently of engine speed. The flaps will open when the engine is not under heavy load. They close as the load increases. The PCM controls the position of the blade using an electronic solenoid motor or solenoid. It uses a position sensor to determine where the wing is located.

The bypass valve is used to control boost pressure in turbo systems. This valve opens to release boost pressure. To monitor the boost pressure, the PCM uses a boost-pressure sensor.

This code could be found on older vehicles equipped with the VGT system. It indicates that there is a potential problem in the VGT actuator/circuit. On older model vehicles with conventional turbocharger/supercharger systems, this code can be set if the PCM detects a potential problem with the performance of the turbo control solenoid (wastegate / bypass valve).

A fault code containing the letter “A” indicates that there is a problem in the system circuitry and not with a specific component. Other relevant fault codes can also be stored depending on the severity.

P0047 fault code can affect vehicles from Skoda to Ford to Mazda to Skoda to Volkswagen to GMC to Chevrolet to Mazda to Ford.

What causes the P0047 Fault code?

Below are some reasons to set fault code P0047:

  • – Failed turbocharger position sensor or boost pressure sensor
  • Failed boost control solenoid/VGT actuator
  • – A defective turbo/supercharger system
  • – Damaged wires or loose connections in the turbocharger sensor circuit
  • Vacuum leakage in the intake manifold
  • – A dirty or clogged filter
  • – Wastegate stuck open or shut
  • – Leakage or blockage of the intercooler
  • – Leakage or loose connections between the turbocharger and exhaust manifold
  • – Turbo damage caused by internal oil leaks and problems with oil supply
  • – Defective PCM

What are the symptoms of the P0047 Fault Code?

You may experience the following symptoms if your vehicle has a P0047 Code:

  • Illumination of the check engine light
  • Low boost can cause poor acceleration performance and engine performance.
  • – Turbo makes strange hissing noises
  • – The engine may not run at idle but could be affected by acceleration.
  • – An increase in fuel consumption
  • – Exhaust fumes emitting black smoke
  • – Engine and transmission overheating

How to Fix the P0047 Fault Code

There are many reasons this fault code could occur. It is difficult to diagnose the fault and it will take many tests before you can replace any part. Vacuum leaks, oil leaks, and other causes can all lead to failure. The system circuit could have damaged wiring and corroded connections.

The turbo hoses, clamps and intercooler should all be checked if the vehicle is acting strangely or if the boost seems to be failing. Although the fault is only visible when the engine has been under load, it may not be apparent at idle. As turbo pressure rises, cracks in the hoses are evident. The cracks can be hidden at low revs and may not show any symptoms.

You should not replace the turbo/supercharger until you have thoroughly tested the bypass valves and wastegate circuits.

  • Repair vacuum leaks
  • – Replacing damaged, cracked hoses
  • – Repair of damaged cables and loose or corroded connectors
  • – Replacing a damaged boost pressure sensor or turbo sensor
  • – Replacing a defective booster solenoid, or VGT actuator
  • – Clean and replace the clogged or dirty air filter

How serious is the P0047 Fault code?

The check engine warning light indicating P0047 usually causes the fault code. You may notice a loud engine, or problems like kickback, rich, or lean fuel mixture. Engine damage can result from problems with supercharger or turbocharger systems. The turbocharger and supercharger systems should be replaced as soon as possible in order to prevent internal engine damage. It is best to stop using the vehicle until the issue has been resolved.
