What is the P0056 fault code What is the malfunction description for the Heated Oxygen Sensor – Bank 2 Sensor 2 Control Circuit (Ho2S)? How do I fix the P0056 fault code What are the causes and symptoms of the P0056 error code?
What is the P0056 Fault code? What does it signify?
When the powertrain control module (PCM), detects a problem with the heater control circuit for the second-row oxygen sensor, a fault code P0056 will be logged. “Bank 2”, which refers to an engine bank that does no include the engine’s #1 piston, is the engine bank. “Sensor 2”, refers to downstream oxygen sensor, after the catalytic convert.
To determine the oxygen content of the exhaust, the PCM uses heated oxygen sensors. The PCM sets the correct air-fuel mixture using the data from the oxygen sensors. A P0056 code is issued if the PCM detects an oxygen sensor not heating up correctly or a heater wire that is defective. Depending on severity, the P0030 or P0036 fault codes could also be triggered.
What causes the P0056 Fault code?
- – Circuit problems with oxygen sensor heater
- – Defective oxygen sensor (Bank 2 Sensor 2)
- – Defective PCM
What are the symptoms of the P0056 Fault code?
- – Illumination at the check engine lights
- – An increase in fuel consumption
Note: This oxygen sensor measures the efficiency of the catalytic convertor. This sensor does not affect air-fuel mixture. This is why you might not experience any other symptoms except the engine check lamp coming on.
How do I fix the P0056 fault code?
- – Test the resistance of the oxygen sensor, and replace it if it is not in compliance with specifications (Bank 2 Sensor 2).
- Repair of damaged wires or loose connectors within the O2 sensor circuit heater circuit
