What is the P0057 fault number? What is the description for the HO2S Control Circuit Low (Bank 2, Sensor 2)? How can you fix P0057 fault codes? What are the causes and symptoms of the P0057 error code?
What is the P0057 fault code? What does it stand for?
When the powertrain controller module (PCM), detects that voltage signal from oxygen sensor’s heat circuit is lower then expected range, P0057 is activated. “Bank 2” in the definition of the code refers to the side of the engine that does not contain the number one cylinder. “Sensor 2,” refers to the sensor that is the furthest from an engine assembly. It means that the sensor is located farthest from the engine assembly.
The oxygen sensors’ job is to measure oxygen levels in the exhaust system. They are located in the exhaust pipe or downstream from the manifold. The PCM relies upon data from oxygen sensors to regulate and control the air/fuel mixture. The second sensor (Sensor 2) is used to monitor the efficiency and performance of the catalytic converter.
Many oxygen sensors come with a heating part to quickly reach operating temperatures. They produce more precise and sensitive information when they reach operating temperatures. The PCM monitors heater circuits continuously for abnormalities or faults. It illuminates the check engine lamp along with a fault number to notify the driver. Other fault codes include P0037 and P0038.
What causes the P0057 Fault code?
You can set fault code P0057 for many reasons:
- – Defective oxygen sensor (Bank 2 Sensor 2)
- – Short circuit issues in the PCM/oxygen sensor heater circuit
- – Damage to wiring harnesses or connectors
What are the symptoms for P0057 fault code?
A code P0057 might not show any symptoms, other than the check engine lamp coming on.
- – Illumination at the check engine lights
- – Lower engine performance
- – Increased fuel use
How to Fix the P0057 Fault Code
- – Test the oxygen sensor and replace it if it is defective (Bank 2 Sensor 2).
- – Repair of cables from the O2 sensor connector to the PCM.
- – It is very unlikely that a PCM will be replaced
