What is P0059 fault code and what does it mean? What is the failure description for the HO2S Heater Resistor Bank 2 Sensor 1? How do I fix the P0059 fault code What are the symptoms and causes for the P0059 fault code
What is the P0059 Fault code? What does it signify?
When the powertrain control module, PCM detects an issue in the heater circuit of oxygen sensor, a code P0059 will be set. It is most likely that the O2 sensor heater circuit has stopped working. “Bank 2” in the definition of the code refers to the side of the engine that does not contain the number one cylinder. “Sensor 1”, which refers to the oxygen sensor nearest to the engine, before the catalytic converter, is called the Sensor 1.
The oxygen sensors’ job is to measure oxygen levels in the exhaust system. They can be mounted downstream of the manifold, in the exhaust pipe or the exhaust manifold. The vehicle’s computer system depends on oxygen sensors for data to control and regulate air-fuel mixture.
To reach operating temperature faster, most oxygen sensors have a heating element. Once they have reached operating temperature, they can produce more sensitive and accurate information. The PCM monitors the oxygen sensors heater circuits constantly for unusual conditions. The PCM sets a fault code when it detects an error in these circuits and informs the driver.
What is the P0059 Fault Code?
You can set fault code P0059 for several reasons. These are the most common causes:
- – Defective oxygen sensor (Bank 2 Sensor 1)
- – Short circuit issues in the PCM/oxygen sensor heater circuit
- – Damage to the wiring harness and connectors
- – O2 sensor heater element fuse blown
- – Defective engine control relay
What are the symptoms of P0059 malfunction code?
Fault code P0059 may have some warning signs. To avoid any further complications, it is important to immediately fix the problem if you see one of these codes.
- – Illumination at the check engine lights
- – Low engine performance
- – Increased fuel use
- Due to the rich working conditions, black smoke is produced from exhaust
- Poor operating conditions can cause difficulty in the operation of the engine
- – Other fault codes can be set
How to Fix the P0059 Fault Code
There are three possible repair methods for this code.
- – Test and replacement of the oxygen sensor (Bank 2 Sens 1)
- – Repair of cables from O2 sensor connector to PCM
- – It is very unlikely that a PCM will be replaced
