What is P0060 fault code and what does it mean? What is the failure description for the HO2S Heater Resistor Bank 2 Sensor 2? How to fix P0060 fault codes? What are the symptoms and causes for the P0060 error code?

What is the P0060 fault code? What does it stand for?

When the powertrain control module, PCM detects potential problems in the heater circuit of an oxygen sensor, a code P0060 will be set. “Bank 2” in the definition of the code refers to the side of the engine that does not contain the number one cylinder. “Sensor 2”, refers to the downstream oxygen sensor that is attached to the catalytic converter.

To send precise information to the PCM, oxygen sensors must be at a specific operating temperature. Most oxygen sensors have a heating element. The engine must be running for at least 15 minutes to allow an oxygen sensor that does not have a heater element send precise and accurate data.

Chevrolet models, especially Chevy Silverado, are at risk of the P0060 fault code.

What causes the P0060 Fault code?

Fault code P0060 can be set for many reasons. There are several possible causes for P0060.

  • – Defective oxygen sensor (Bank 2 Sensor 2)
  • – Corrosion of electrical terminals or connections
  • – Short circuit problems with the PCM circuit and the oxygen sensor heater circuit
  • – Damage to the wiring harness and connectors
  • – O2 sensor heater element fuse blown
  • – Defective engine control relay

What are the symptoms for P0060’s Fault Code?

  • – Illumination for check engine light
  • – An increase in fuel consumption
  • – Poor mixture causes difficulty in starting the engine
  • The rich mixture causes black smoke to rise from the exhaust.

How do I fix the P0060 fault code?

  • – Check the oxygen sensor for faults and replace it (Bank 2 Sensor 2).
  • – Inspection and repair cables and connections related to the oxygen sensor
  • – It is very unlikely that a PCM will be replaced

How serious is the P0060 Fault code?

P0060 fault code should be considered serious as the upstream O2 heater circuit won’t work. This sensor provides accurate information about the vehicle’s emissions system and makes any necessary adjustments. The O2 sensor can be faulty and the vehicle’s emissions will rise, which could lead to environmental pollution. Moreover, higher emission values can reduce the life expectancy of the catalytic convert.
