What is the P0082 fault code What is the description for the Intake Valve Control Solenoid Circuit Low Bank 2 malfunction? How can you fix the fault code P0082? What are the symptoms and causes for the P0082 fault code

What is the P0082 Fault code? What does it stand for?

If the powertrain control module, PCM detects that the voltage signal coming from the intake valve solenoid circuit is below predetermined parameters, a code P0082 will be set. In the definition of the code, “Bank 2” refers to the opposite engine banks of the engine and does not include cylinder 1. The intake valve control solenoid can be found on the intake side of the cylinderhead.

Vehicles with variable valve technology (VVT) have a PCM that operates an actuator control solenoid. This applies oil pressure at the actuators’ ends. The camshaft position is changed by applying oil pressure to the actuator. This affects the valve timing. The PCM will set a code P0082 if it detects a voltage signal from the solenoid which applies oil pressure to bank 2’s intake camshaft actuator, below the factory specifications.

This code is similar P0081 and to some extent P0083 fault codes. Sometimes, P0082 and P0028 may be combined. The P0082 fault code can be applied to vehicles made by Hyundai, Ford, Renault and Kia.

What is the P0082 Fault Code?

  • – Affected intake valve control solenoid Bank 2.
  • – Short circuits, damaged wires and loose connections
  • – Low engine oil
  • – Using engine oil with a low viscosity.
  • – Defective PCM (rarely)

What are the symptoms of P0082 Malfunction Code?

  • – Illumination at the check engine lights
  • – Hesitation during acceleration
  • – Engine performance problems (hard starting, irregular idling, etc.
  • Engine stalling
  • – An increase in fuel consumption
  • – Clicking sound coming from engine

How do I fix the P0082 fault code?

Depending on the make or model of the vehicle, the repair and definition of fault code P0082 can differ. Vehicle VVT systems and methods may vary. It is important to read and follow all manufacturer instructions before replacing any component.

  • – Clear all codes first. Then, a road test should take place to determine if the codes return.
  • – The harness should be inspected if the code is returned. You should clean and repair any damaged or broken cables, loose connections, or corroded connectors.
  • – Make sure to check the engine oil. It should be replaced if it isn’t.
  • – Intake valve control solenoid bank 2 should always be inspected for damage. If it is damaged, the solenoid should be replaced.

How serious is the P0082 Fault code?

Fault code P0082 can cause the engine to run irregularly, low performance, and excessive fuel consumption. This fault code must be resolved immediately to avoid further engine damage.
