What is the P0112 fault number? Intake Air Temperature Sensor 1 Circuit Low What’s the description of the input malfunction? How do I fix the P0112 fault code What are the causes and symptoms of the P0112 error code?
What is the P0112 fault code? What does it all mean?
The intake air temperature sensor (IAT), measures the temperature of the air entering an engine. It is part of the mass airflow (MAF) sensor. This sensor measures intake air temperature and sends this information to powertrain control module, also called the engine control module. The engine must operate at its maximum performance by maintaining a high intake air temperature. Higher intake air temperatures mean higher combustion temperatures. This leads to increased Nox (Nitrogen Oxides) emissions.
The IAT sensor measures the temperature of air using a thermometer or thermistor. The PCM transmits a 5V reference voltage signal to thermistor. The thermistor is resistant to cold temperatures. The resistance decreases when the weather is hot. These changes in resistance can affect the reference voltage signal from your PCM. This informs the PCM about the air temperature. If the PCM detects that the intake air temperature is too high (148°C / 300°F) even though the engine is cold, a P0112 code is set. This means that the IAT sensor signal voltage is too low (below 1.18V).
What causes the P0112 Fault code?
Below are some reasons to set fault code P0112:
- – Defective intake temperature (IAT), sensor
- – Connector connections and wires that are damaged to the IAT sensor circuit.
- – Open or short in the ground wire for the IAT sensor.
- – The intake air is too high due to a malfunction
- – Very dirty and clogged filter
- – Defective MAF sensor
- – Defective PCM
What are the symptoms of P0112 Malfunction Code?
You may experience the following symptoms if your vehicle has code P0112.
- – Illumination for the check engine light
- – An increase in fuel consumption
- – Hard start
- – Exhaust smoke during acceleration
- – A rise in Nox emissions value
- – PCM can be switched to failsafe mode
Note: P0112 symptoms can vary depending on the PCM strategy used by the vehicle manufacturer.
How to Fix the P0112 Fault Code
- – All codes must first be cleared.
- Repair or replacement IAT sensor wiring and connectors
- Troubleshooting an open or short circuit in IAT sensor ground wire
- – Replacing a faulty IAT sensor
