What is P0122 fault code? Throttle Position Sensor/Switch A Circuit Low Input failure description? How do I fix the P0122 fault code What are the causes and symptoms of the P0122 error code?

What is the P0122 Fault code? What does it signify?

A code P0122 will be triggered if the powertrain control module (PCM / ECM / ECU) detects that the throttle position sensor “A” circuit output voltage is lower than expected. The throttle position sensor signal is used by the PCM to determine the position of the throttle. If the signal value falls below 0.17V, the PCM will set this code.

The throttle position sensor, as the name implies, tracks the position of your throttle. This sensor is typically located in the throttle body. However, it can also be found in electronic throttles on newer vehicles.

The PCM uses information from the throttle position sensor in order to adjust the air/fuel ratio and ignition timing. These data are also used to manage the emissions system.

The P0122 fault code can affect vehicles of various manufacturers, including Nissan, Hyundai and Volvo, Subaru, Honda.

What causes the P0122 Fault code?

Below are some reasons to set fault code P0122:

  • – Sensor for throttle position loosely mounted
  • – Sensor circuit problems (damaged wires or loose connectors; open or shorted issues).
  • – Defective throttle position sensor
  • – Defective PCM / ECM / ECU

What are the symptoms for P0122 Malfunction Codes?

You may experience the following symptoms if your vehicle has a code of P0122:

  • – Illumination for check engine light
  • – Hard start
  • – Engine hesitation during acceleration
  • – Fluctuating idle speed, either very low or very high
  • – Engine stalling
  • – Low or no acceleration (vehicle may be driven very slowly and have limited throttle response).
  • – The PCM cuts the current to throttle actuator and opens throttle valve to less 6 degrees. This puts the vehicle in failsafe mode.

Notice: Different symptoms may be present depending on the vehicle manufacturer’s programming strategy for the PCM.

How do I fix the P0122 fault code?

  • To check if the vehicle will return, the codes must first be cleared.
  • – Repairing damaged wires and loose connections, as well as open or short circuits to A circuit for the throttle position sensor
  • – Replacing a damaged throttle position sensor
  • – Reprogramming or replacing the PCM

How serious is the P0122 Fault code?

The PCM will enter failsafe mode when code P0122 is entered. This can cause many driving problems, including stalling, low speeds, hesitation, and acceleration loss. It all depends on the manufacturer’s failsafe mode strategy. This will make the vehicle unsafe to drive. It must be fixed as soon as possible.
