What is P0127 fault code? Is there a reason why the Intake Air Temperature Too High fault is occurring? How can I fix the P0127 fault code What are the symptoms and causes for the P0127 fault code

What is the P0127 Fault code? What does it signify?

This code is used to notify the driver when the intake air temperature is too high. If the powertrain control module, PCM detects that voltage levels from the intake temperature sensor (IAT), are higher than the maximum limit, a code P0127 will trigger.

Role of IAT Sensor

The PCM uses the signals from the IAT sensor (Mass Air Flow Sensor) and MAF signals to calculate fuel delivery, ignition timing. For engine performance and fuel economy, a ratio of 14.7 to 1 is essential. The PCM will generate an error code and notify the driver if it is not setting the right mix. The IAT sensor also assists the PCM to adjust the idle speed or ignition timing.

The IAT sensor is typically located in the air intake pipe or housing, or on the intake manifold. You can integrate it into the MAF sensor body. It reports the temperature of the engine’s air to the PCM using voltage signals. The MAF assembly must be replaced if the IAT sensor has been integrated into the MAF sensor.

The IAT sensor usually uses a 2-wire thermistor sensor. The temperature of the air will influence how sensitive the sensor is. The resistance will decrease with increasing temperature. The reference voltage is usually 5 volts. Voltage fluctuations can result from voltage fluctuations in an input circuit that is subject to variations in resistance. The PCM receives the sensor’s resistance and the intake temperature.

If the PCM detects voltage signals that exceed the limits of the IAT sensor, it will store the code P0127 to illuminate the check engine lamp.

The P0127 fault code can affect vehicles of all makes and models, including those made by Nissan (especially Frontier and Xterra), Volvo and Scion.

Significance and Symptoms of the P0127 Trouble Code

Fuel trim strategy is influenced by the IAT sensor. P0127 fault codes should be treated seriously. These are some typical symptoms of malfunction:

  • – Illumination at the check engine lights
  • – Misfires and rev fluctuation when idle or light acceleration
  • – Increased fuel use
  • – Low engine performance, especially at cold start

Causes of the P0127 Fault code

  • IAT sensor connector cable not plugged in
  • – Disconnection, short circuit, corrosion, etc. In cables and connections.
  • – Defective IAT sensor
  • – Defective MAF sensor
  • Clogged air filter
  • – Broken air intake pipe

Similar IAT sensor fault codes: P0095 and P0096.
