What is the P0133 fault number? What is the Oxygen sensor circuit slow response (Bank 1) malfunction description? How can you fix P0133 fault code What are the symptoms and causes for the P0133 fault code

What is the P0133 fault code? What does it signify?

The oxygen sensors measure the oxygen levels in exhaust gases from an engine. This information is continuously transmitted to the Powertrain Control Module (PCM/ECM) in the form a voltage signal. The Control Module uses this information and data from other sensors to regulate the fuel level in the engine.

Every time you push the accelerator pedal, the ratio of exhaust gases to air fuel changes. The voltage signals sent by the sensor to its PCM should change in this instance. If the oxygen sensor is slow to respond to the changing ratio of air-fuel, the PCM will record the fault code P0133 in its memory. “Bank 1” refers at the engine’s cylinder 1 side, while “Sensor 1”, refers to upstream oxygen sensors that precede the catalytic converter.

What are the Possible Causes for the P0133 Fault code?

  • – A faulty oxygen sensor
  • – Leaky exhaust manifold
  • – Engine vacuum leaks
  • – Short or open circuit in the wiring for the O2 sensor
  • – O2 sensor buildup (excessive buildup blocks the ports that the sensor uses for measuring the fuel ratio)
  • – A dirty Mass Air Flow Sensor (MAF).
  • – Wrong fuel pressure

What are the symptoms for P0133 fault code?

  • Illumination of the check engine light
  • – Engine stalling/stalling
  • – Engine running in lean or rich conditions
  • – Increased fuel use
  • – Engine losing power
  • – An increase in emissions values
  • – Exhaust smoke

How to Fix the P0133 Fault Code

  • – Replacing the defective oxygen sensor
  • – Correcting cable damage and loose connections within the oxygen sensor circuit
  • – Vacuum leak repairs
  • – Repairing leaks from the exhaust system
  • – Clean the mass air flow sensor
  • – Cleaning the O2 sensor cable terminals

How serious is the P0133 Fault code?

Although fault code P0133 does not usually prevent the vehicle’s from starting, it should be fixed as soon as possible. This code is used to indicate that the environment is polluted by extremely hazardous exhaust gases. It is possible that the engine’s performance and power may be affected.
