What is the P0140 fault code? What does it stand for?
The oxygen sensors are used by the engine control module (PCM/ECM/ECU) to adjust engine performance and reduce emission levels. If the oxygen sensor 2 (Sensor 2) produces weak signals or fails to work, the fault code P0140 is activated. Bank 1 is the engine side with cylinder #1.
The Oxygen Sensor, also known as the O2 Sensor, reports to the ECU the amount waste oxygen in exhaust gases. This information is used to determine whether fuel was injected too much (rich) and too little (poor).
The engine control module generates a voltage reference of 0.45V for the oxygen sensor. This voltage is located in bank 1. Sensor 2. The O2 sensor will misread the amount of oxygen in the exhaust if this voltage is exceeded. This sensor is used to determine vehicle emissions.
