What is the P0144 fault number? What is the O2 Sensor Circuit high voltage (Bank 1, Sensor 3) malfunction description? How can you fix P0144 fault code What are the symptoms and causes for the P0144 fault code

What is the P0144 Fault code? What does it signify?

The powertrain control module (PCM), detects too high oxygen sensor voltage signals and triggers code P0144. In the code’s description, “Bank 1” indicates that the bank contains the engine’s number 1 cylinder. “Sensor 3”, refers to O2 sensor located furthest away from the engine, following the catalytic converter.

It is crucial to ensure that the catalytic conversion works efficiently. A damaged converter will result in decreased engine performance and higher harmful emissions. The PCM uses both upstream oxygen sensors, which are located before the catalytic engine, to determine the amount of fuel to inject into an engine. It also uses downstream sensors to monitor the catalytic unit’s efficiency. These sensors are located on both the exhaust manifolds and exhaust pipes.

The sensor’s voltage signals vary depending on the amount oxygen in the exhaust. They can range from 0.1 to 0.9 Volts. The exhaust is considered to be lean if it contains too much air. A voltage signal of 0.9V means that it has been enriched. If the PCM detects that the voltage signal has reached too high, a P0144 fault code will be set.

The P0144 fault code can affect vehicles from many manufacturers, including Mazda, Chrysler, Ford, BMW, Ford and Ford.

What causes the P0144 Fault code?

This error code could be triggered by:

  • – Defective oxygen sensor (bank 1 sensor 3)
  • – Wiring problems in the O2 sensor circuit (short, or open wires touching exhaust system).
  • – Defective PCM

What are the symptoms for P0144 fault code?

These symptoms may be present in vehicles with code P0144.

  • – Illumination and control of the check engine light
  • – An increase in exhaust emissions
  • If there is an exhaust gas leak, it could leak into the passenger compartment.

Because they don’t directly affect fuel delivery, but monitor the efficiency of catalysts, post-catalyst O2 sensors are not likely to cause driveability problems.

How do I fix the P0144 fault code?

  • Road testing is necessary to determine if codes will be returned.
  • – Check for any exhaust leaks or damage before the O2 sensor is installed. Repair if necessary.
  • Repair or replace the wiring or connections to the O2 sensor bank 1 sensor 3.
  • O2 sensor replacement (bank 1, sensor 3)
