What is the P0145 fault code What is the description for the O2 Sensor Circuit Slow Response Bank 1 Sensor 3 malfunction? How can you fix P0145 fault code What are the causes and symptoms of the P0145 error code?

What is the P0145 Fault code? What does it all mean?

If the powertrain control module, PCM detects that downstream oxygen sensor is responding slower than usual, a code P0145 will be generated. “Bank 1”, in the code description, refers to the bank that contains the engine’s number 1 cylinder. “Sensor 3”, the O2 sensor closest to the engine, is the O2 sensor after the catalytic convert.

The catalytic converter must be operated efficiently. A damaged converter will result in decreased engine performance and higher harmful emissions. The PCM uses both upstream oxygen sensors, which are located before the catalytic engine, to calculate the amount of fuel to inject into an engine. It also uses downstream sensors to monitor the efficiency and performance of the catalytic generator. These sensors can be found on the exhaust pipes and manifold.

The voltage signals of the sensor vary depending on how much oxygen is in the exhaust. The exhaust is considered to be lean if it contains too much air. A 0.9V signal indicates that it’s enriched. If the downstream oxygen sensor (sensor 3), does not respond after a specified time, code P0145 is triggered and an engine check light will go on.

The P0145 fault code can affect vehicles from Mitsubishi (especially Lancer), Ford and Honda as well as models from Volkswagen, Audi, Acura and Acura.

What causes the P0145 Fault code?

These are possible triggers for this error code:

  • – Defective oxygen sensor (bank 1 sensor 3)
  • – Wiring issues with the O2 sensor circuit (short and open wires touching the exhaust)
  • – Exhaust leaks
  • – Clogged catalytic convertor
  • – Defective PCM

What are the symptoms of the P0145 Fault code?

You may experience the following symptoms if your vehicle has a P0145 Code:

  • – Illumination for check engine light
  • – An increase in exhaust emissions
  • If the exhaust is leaking, exhaust gases could seep into the passenger compartment.
  • – Increased fuel consumption
  • – Low engine performance

How to Fix the P0145 Fault Code

  • – Check for exhaust leaks or damage before the O2 sensor is installed. Repair if necessary.
  • – Coolant, oil or other substances may cause the O2 sensor to be infected.
  • – Replace or repair wiring to O2 sensor bank 1 sensor 3
  • – Replacing O2 sensor (bank 1, sensor 3)
