What is the P0153 fault number? What is the Oxygen Sensor Circuit Slow Reaction (Bank 2, Sensor 1) malfunction description. How can you fix P0153 error code? What are the causes and symptoms for the P0153 fault code

What is the P0153 fault code? What does it all mean?

An oxygen sensor measures the amount and quality of the engine’s exhaust gases. This information is continuously transmitted to the Powertrain Control Module (PCM/ECM) in the form a voltage signal. The Control Module uses this information and data from other sensors to regulate the fuel level in the engine.

The air-fuel ratio of the exhaust gases changes each time you press the accelerator pedal. The voltage signals sent by the sensor to its PCM should change in this instance. The PCM will store the P0153 code if the oxygen sensor reacts slowly to changes in the air-fuel ratio as you press the accelerator pedal. “Bank 2”, which refers a cylinder 2 of the engine, and Sensor 1 refers a downstream oxygen sensor that precedes a catalytic converter. The 4-cylinder inline system vehicles have only one engine row. This is why you will often see this code on 6- and 8-cylinder vehicles.

What are the Possible Causes for the P0153 Fault code?

  • – A defective oxygen sensor
  • – The O2 sensor wiring can be either open or short circuit.
  • – Leaky exhaust manifold
  • – Engine vacuum leaks
  • – O2 sensor buildup (excessive buildup blocks the ports that the sensor uses for measuring the fuel ratio)
  • – A dirty mass flow sensor (MAF),
  • – Wrong fuel pressure

What are the symptoms for the P0153 fault code?

  • – Continuous illumination, flashing or continuous illumination of the checkengine light
  • Engine stalling and stalling
  • – Engine running in lean or rich conditions
  • – A higher fuel consumption
  • – Engine losing power
  • – A rise in emission values
  • – Smoke coming from the exhaust

How to Fix the P0153 Fault Code

  • – Replacing the defective oxygen sensor (Bank 2 Sensor 1
  • – Correcting cable damage and loose connections within the oxygen sensor circuit
  • – Vacuum leak repair
  • – Fixing exhaust system leaks
  • – Cleansing the dirty mass flow sensor
  • – Cleaning the O2 sensor cable terminals

How serious is the P0153 Fault code?

Although fault code P0153 does not usually prevent the vehicle’s starting, it should be repaired as soon as possible. You may notice a significant increase in fuel consumption. A significant decrease in engine power and performance may also be observed.
