What is the P0159 fault code What is the description of O2 Sensor Circuit Slow Response Bank 2 Sensor 2? How can you fix P0159 fault code What are the symptoms, causes, and solutions for the P0159 fault code?

What is the P0159 fault code? What does it all mean?

If a P0159 code is displayed, it means that one of the exhaust system’s oxygen sensors is not functioning as expected. If the powertrain controller module (PCM), detects that the O2 sensor following the catalytic convert (Sensor 2) is responding slowly, it will set a code of P0159. This sensor monitors the catalytic converter’s efficiency.

This code is used if the oxygen sensor modulates slowly. It should vary 16 times between 800mv to 250mv within a twenty-second period. It is considered defective if it does not meet this standard.

What causes the P0159 Fault code?

You can trigger the P0159 code fault code for many reasons. The following are some possible causes:

  • – Defective oxygen sensor (Bank 2 Sensor 2)
  • – Connectors and/or wiring that are damaged, burnt, shorted or disconnected.
  • – Short circuit or open issues with the O2 sensor
  • – Exhaust leaks
  • – Vapor leakage in intake air
  • – Blown fuse (if any)
  • – Oily or heavily soiled oxygen sensor
  • – A PCM that is not working or requires a software upgrade

What are the P0159 Malfunction Code Symptoms

These symptoms may be present if you own a vehicle that has the code P0159:

  • – Illumination at the check engine lights
  • Black smoke can be produced if the operating conditions are rich.
  • Poor operating conditions can cause the engine to stumble or hesitate when it is trying to accelerate.
  • – Increased fuel use
  • – Idle speed irregularity

How to Fix the P0159 Fault Code

The following repairs may be able to resolve the P0159 fault code:

  • To determine if the codes will return, you must first reset them.
  • Repair oxygen sensor wiring that is damaged or missing.
  • – Any leaks in the exhaust must be fixed before any oxygen sensors can replaced
  • MAF sensor should also be checked. Vacuum leaks in the intake should be addressed.
  • – Replace the oxygen sensor (Bank 2 Sens 2)
  • If necessary, replace or update the power control modules (PCM).

How serious is the P0159 Fault code?

This code does not have any impact on vehicle drivability. Although P0159 won’t leave you at the roadside, it can cause damage to your catalytic converter if not addressed.
