What is the P0160 fault number? What is the O2 Sensor Circuit No Activity Detected(Bank 2 Sensor 2) failure description. How do I fix the P0160 fault code What are the causes and symptoms of the P0160 error code?

What is the P0160 Fault code? What does it signify?

P0160 is an indication that the powertrain control module, (PCM), has detected a problem in the oxygen sensor circuit. “Bank 2”, in the code description, refers the engine bank which does not contain the number-one cylinder of an engine. “Sensor 2”, a fault in downstream oxygen sensor, after the catalytic conversion.

An oxygen sensor plays a crucial role in fuel delivery, ignition timing, valve timing strategies and other important aspects. The PCM gathers data from different sensors to ensure that the engine produces the maximum power and consumes the least fuel. Based on these sensors, it calculates the air/fuel ratio, ignition timing, and VVT/VCS settings.

Modern cars are equipped with a heated oxide sensor (HO2S), instead of a regular one. The heating part of the sensor allows for the sensor to reach operating temperatures faster. This allows the engine to enter the closed loop quicker. There are four wires in heated oxygen sensors. Two wires provide the PCM an aggregate circuit and a reference voltage signal of 0.5 volts. The two remaining wires serve as the ground and supply wiring to the heater component.

What is the P0160 Fault Code?

The following are the most frequent causes of the P0160 fault code:

  • – Defective oxygen sensor (Bank 2 Sensor 2)
  • – Sensor wiring short circuits or damage
  • – Leakage of exhaust near the oxygen sensor
  • Blown O2 sensor heater circuit fuse

What are the symptoms for the P0160 Fault code?

These symptoms may be present if you own a vehicle that has the code P0160.

  • – Illumination at the check engine lights
  • – An increase fuel consumption
  • – Excessive smoke coming from the exhaust

How to Fix the P0160 Fault Code

The following repairs may be able to resolve the P0160 fault code:

  • – Inspect the exhaust components that come in contact with the connector, sensor wiring, and fix any leaks
  • – Repair damaged, shorted or exposed oxygen sensor wiring
  • – Replace the fuse on the oxygen sensor heater elements if it is blown.
  • – Replace the oxygen sensor (Bank 2 Sens 2)

How Serious Is the P0160 Fault Code

The P0160 fault code is not something you should be concerned about. This fault code doesn’t have any effect on your vehicle’s safety. This fault code may result in your vehicle failing the emissions test.
