What is the P0201 fault number? What is Cylinder 1 Circuit Malfunction? How can you fix P0201 fault codes? What are the causes and symptoms for the P0201 fault code
What is the P0201 fault code? What does it all mean?
If the powertrain controller module (PCM/ECM/ECU) detects an error in the fuel injector circuit of cylinder 1, a code P0201 will be set. This code indicates a damaged wire, loose terminal, blown coil, or any other problem interrupting the cylinder1 fuel injector circuit. The check engine light will turn on and the failsafe mode will activate once this code has been entered. The tool will continue running in this mode until it is corrected. A P0201 code could cause engine misfires, rich or poor mixture conditions.
The PCM monitors fuel injectors constantly for any malfunctions. The voltage signal should be near or low when the injector activates. The voltage signal should be close to the battery voltage when the injector is switched off. If the PCM cannot see the voltage signal, it will set fault code P0201. The PCM also monitors circuit resistance. If the resistance is too high or low, this code will still be set.
This code is similar in format to P0202,P0203,P0204,P0205,P0206,P0205,P0206,P0207,P0206,P0207,P0208 and P0208 fault codes.
What causes the P0201 Fault code?
There are many reasons that the P0201 fault code may be activated. These are just a few possible causes for the P0201 fault code:
- – Defective cylinder 1 fuel injector
- Circuit problems with wiring or connectors to the fuel injection system (such as damaged wiring or loose or corroded connections)
- – A PCM that is not working or requires a software upgrade
Fuel injectors can get dirty and eventually fail after about 150,000 km. Sometimes, cleaning the injectors can be a good idea and help prevent future problems.
What are the symptoms of the P0201 Fault code?
These symptoms may be present if you own a vehicle that has the P0201 code.
- – Illumination for check engine light
- Engine misfires
- Engine stalling
- – Engine running erratically, or not at all
- – Engines can be run in both rich and lean conditions
- – Increased fuel consumption
- – Sudden acceleration without power
- – Enables PCM failsafe mode
How to Fix the P0201 Fault Code
- – Inspect the resistance of the fuel injector 1 and replace it if it’s defective
- – Repair of wiring connectors for fuel injector
- – Replacing PCM
How Serious Is the P0201 Fault Code
P0201 can lead to engine misfires, stalls and runs erratically. Poor or excessive operating conditions can also cause problems with an injector that is defective. This code must be fixed quickly to avoid engine failures and high repair costs.
