What is P0204 fault code? What is Cylinder 4 Injector Circuit Malfunction described? How can you fix P0204 fault code What are the causes and symptoms of the P0204 error code?

What is the P0204 Fault Code and what does it mean? What does it signify?

If the powertrain control module, PCM detects an out-of-range voltage/resistance in the fuel injector circuit of cylinder 4, a code P0204 will be set. This code indicates a fault in either the injector’s wiring or the injector itself. This code will cause the check engine lamp to illuminate and failsafe mode to activate. This mode will continue until the problem is resolved. P0204 codes can lead to engine misfires, rich or poor mixture conditions.

The PCM monitors fuel injectors constantly for malfunctions. The voltage signal should be near or low when the injector activates. The voltage signal should be close to the battery voltage when the injector is switched off. If the PCM cannot see the voltage signal, it will set fault code P0204. The circuit resistance is also monitored by the PCM. If the resistance is too high or low, this code will still be set.

This code is very similar to P0200/P0201,P0202,P0205,P0206,P0206,P0207,P0208 and P0207 fault codes.

What causes the P0204 Fault code?

There are many reasons that the P0204 fault code may be activated. These are some possible causes for the P0204 fault code:

  • Fuel injector #4 is dirty, clogged or defective
  • Circuit problems in wiring and connectors to your fuel injector (such a damaged wiring, loose or corrosion connectors, open circuits, or short circuits).
  • – The PCM is not functioning properly or needs to be updated.

Fuel injectors can get dirty and eventually fail after an average of 150,000km. Sometimes, cleaning the injectors can be a good idea and help prevent future problems.

What are the symptoms for the P0204 fault code?

These symptoms may be present in vehicles with code P0204.

  • – Illumination for the check engine light
  • – Engine misfires
  • Engine stalling
  • Engine running erratically/not running at all
  • – Engine can run in either rich or lean conditions
  • – An increase in fuel consumption
  • – Sudden acceleration without power
  • Fluctuations in idle speeds
  • – Enables PCM failsafe mode

How to Fix the P0204 Fault Code

The following repairs may be able to resolve the P0204 fault codes:

  • – Inspect the resistance of the fuel injector 4 and replace it if it’s defective
  • – Repair of wires, connectors or open circuits to fuel injectors
  • – Replacing PCM

How Serious Is the P0204 Fault Code

P0204 is a serious problem as it can cause an engine to misfire, stall or run erratically. Poor or excessive operating conditions can also cause problems with an injector that is defective. This code must be fixed quickly to avoid engine failures and high repair costs.
