What is the P0205 fault number? What is Cylinder 5 Circuit Malfunction? How do you fix the P0205 fault code What are the causes and symptoms of the P0205 error code?

What is the P0205 fault code? What does it all mean?

A P0205 code is issued when the powertrain controller module (PCM), detects out of range voltage or resistance within the cylinder 5 gasoline injector circuit. It indicates an issue with the wiring of the injector, or the injector itself. The check engine light will turn on and the failsafe mode will activate when this code has been entered. This mode will continue until the problem is resolved. A code P0205 may cause engine misfires or rich/lean mixture conditions.

The PCM continuously monitors the fuel injections for malfunctions. The voltage signal should be near or low when the injector activates. The voltage signal should be close to the battery voltage when the injector is switched off. If the PCM doesn’t receive the voltage signal it expects it to, it will set fault code P0205. The circuit resistance is also monitored by the PCM. If the resistance is too high or low, this code will still be set.

This code is very similar to P0202, O0201, O0204 and P0204.

What causes the P0205 Fault code?

There are many reasons that the P0205 fault code may be activated. These are just a few possible causes for the P0205 fault code:

  • Defective, dirty, or blocked #5 cylinder fuel injector
  • Circuit problems in wiring and connectors to the fuel injection (such as damaged wiring or loose or corroded connections, open circuits, or short circuits).
  • – The PCM is not functioning properly or needs to be updated.

Fuel injectors become dirty over time. They are susceptible to failure after 150,000km. It is possible to clean the injectors and prevent problems.

What are the symptoms for the P0205 fault code?

These symptoms may be present in vehicles with code P0205

  • – Illumination at the check engine lights
  • Engine misfires
  • Engine stalling
  • – Engine running erratically, or not at all
  • – Engine can run in either rich or lean conditions
  • – An increase in fuel consumption
  • – Sudden acceleration without power
  • – Fluctuations of idle speed
  • – Enables PCM failsafe mode

How to Fix the P0205 Fault Code

The following repairs may be able to resolve the P0205 fault codes:

  • – Replace the fuel injector in cylinder 5 if it fails to resist.
  • Repair of wires, connectors, short or open circuits to fuel injectors
  • – Replacing PCM

How Serious Is the P0205 Fault Code

P0205 is a serious problem as it can cause an engine to misfire or stall, and then run erratically. Injector problems can cause many problems. This code must be fixed quickly to avoid engine failures and high repair costs.
