What is the P0206 fault code What is the Cylinder 6 Injector Circuit Malfunction description? How can you fix the P0206 fault? What are the symptoms and causes for the P0206 fault code
What is the P0206 fault code? What does it all mean?
If the powertrain controller module (PCM), detects an out of-range voltage or resistance within the cylinder 6 fuel injection circuit, a P0206 code is generated. This code indicates a fault in either the wiring or the injector. This code will cause the check engine lamp to illuminate and failsafe mode to activate. This mode will continue until the problem is resolved. P0206 codes can cause engine misfires or rich/lean mixture conditions.
The PCM continuously monitors the fuel injections for malfunctions. The voltage signal should not be below zero when the injector is activated. When the injector turns off, the voltage signal must be high or near battery voltage. If the PCM cannot see the voltage signal, it will set fault code P0206. The PCM also monitors circuit resistance. If the resistance becomes too low or too high, this code will still apply.
This code is very similar to P0202,P0201 and P0204.
What causes the P0206 Fault code?
You can trigger the P0206 code fault code for many reasons. The following are some possible causes:
- – 6 cylinder fuel injector clogged, dirty or defective
- Circuit problems with the wiring and connectors to fuel injector (such damaged wiring, loose connectors or corroded connectors or open or short circuits).
- – The PCM is not functioning properly or needs to be updated.
Fuel injectors become dirty over time. They are susceptible to failure after 150,000 km. Sometimes, cleaning the injectors can be a good idea and help prevent future problems.
What are the symptoms for P0206 Malfunction Codes?
You may experience the following symptoms if your vehicle has the code P0206.
- – Illumination at the check engine lights
- – Engine misfires
- Engine stalling
- Engine running erratically/not running at all
- – Engines can be run in both rich and lean conditions
- – Increased fuel consumption
- – Insufficient power for sudden acceleration
- – Fluctuations of idle speed
- – Enables PCM failsafe mode
How do I fix the P0206 fault code?
There are several repairs that can resolve the P0206 fault code.
- – In cylinder 6, check the resistance of your fuel injector and replace it if it’s defective.
- – Repair of fuel injector wires, connectors and open or short circuits
- – Replacing your PCM
How serious is the P0206 fault code?
P0206 is a serious problem as it can cause an engine to run erratically, misfire or stall. Poor or excessive operating conditions can also cause problems with an injector that is defective. It is important to address the code quickly and fix it in order to avoid failure of engine components.
