What is the P0212 fault number? What is Cylinder 12 Circuit Malfunction? How can you fix P0212 fault codes? What are the causes and symptoms of the P0212 error code?

What is the P0212 Fault code? What does it signify?

If the powertrain control module, PCM detects an out-of-range voltage/resistance in the cylinder 12 fuel injection circuit, a code P0212 will be set. It indicates an issue with the wiring of the injector, or the injector itself. The check engine light will turn on and the failsafe mode will activate when this code has been entered. This mode will keep the tool running until the problem is solved. A P0212 code could cause an engine misfire or rich/lean mixture conditions.

The PCM continuously monitors the fuel injections for malfunctions. The voltage signal should be near or low when the injector activates. When the injector turns off, the voltage signal must be high or near battery voltage. If the PCM cannot see the voltage signal, it will set fault code P0212. The circuit resistance is also monitored by the PCM. If the resistance becomes too low or too high, this code will still apply.

This code is similar P0200, PM0201 and P0204.

What causes the P0212 Fault code?

You can trigger the P0212 fault code for many reasons. The following are some possible causes:

  • – No. 12 cylinder fuel injector
  • Circuit problems in wiring and connectors to the fuel injection (e.g. damaged wiring, loose, corroded or open connectors, short circuits)
  • – The PCM is corrupted or needs to be updated

Fuel injectors can get dirty and eventually fail after about 150,000 km. Sometimes, cleaning the injectors can be a good idea and help prevent future problems.

What are the symptoms of P0212 Malfunction Code?

These symptoms may be present if you own a vehicle that has the code P0212.

  • – Illumination for the check engine light
  • Engine misfires
  • – Engine stalling
  • Engine running erratically, or not at all
  • – Engine can run in either rich or lean conditions
  • – An increase of fuel consumption
  • – Insufficient power for sudden acceleration
  • – Fluctuations at idle speed
  • – Enables PCM failsafe mode

How do I fix the P0212 fault code?

The following repairs may be able to resolve the P0212 fault code:

  • – Replace the fuel injector in cylinder 12 if it is not working properly.
  • – Repair of fuel injector wires, connectors and open or short circuits
  • – Replacing PCM

How serious is the P0212 Fault code?

P0212 can cause engine misfires, stalls and run erratically. Poor or excessive operating conditions can also cause problems with an injector that is defective. This code must be fixed quickly to avoid engine failures and high repair costs.
