What is the P0234 fault code What is the Turbocharger / Supercharger “A” Over Boost Condition fault description? How do you fix the P0234 fault? What are the causes and symptoms of the P0234 error code?

What is the P0234 fault code? What does it all mean?

If the powertrain controller module (PCM), detects that the boost in the forced-induction system (Turbocharger/Supercharger/Compressor) exceeds the maximum pressure for more than five seconds, fault code 0234 will be recorded.

This fault code can be better understood by looking at how supercharger and turbo systems work. An internal combustion engine uses the vacuum created by the pistons’ downward movement to draw in fuel and air. An air compressor is used to add fuel and air to a turbocharged or supercharged motor. This is known as “forced induction” This allows small displacement engines to produce more power.

Supercharger and turbo systems can create extra pressure in the intake manifold. While the engine will tolerate any additional pressure in its manifold, excessive boost pressure can cause engine parts to be stressed. This can be avoided by setting predetermined boost pressure limits.

When turbo boost pressure exceeds factory standards, code P0234 will be triggered.

P0234 fault codes can be found on a variety of Ford models (especially the Escape), Audi and Volvo, Mercedes Benz and Mercedes Benz Saab, Fiats, Dodges, Mazdas, and Nissan.

What causes the P0234 Fault code?

Below are some reasons to set fault code P0234:

  • – The Wastegate is still closed
  • – Broken wastegate control valve solenoid
  • – Problems with booster control or the wastegate
  • – Connector or wiring problems
  • – Defective turbo booster sensor
  • – Defective turbocharger / supercharger
  • – Defective BARO / MAP sensor
  • – Exhaust restriction
  • – A PCM that is not working or requires a software upgrade

What are the symptoms of the P0234 Fault Code?

You may experience the following symptoms if your vehicle has a P0234 code:

  • – Illumination at the check engine lights
  • – Low engine performance
  • – Engine overheating
  • – Overheating the gearbox and jerking during shifting gears
  • – Increased fuel use
  • – Turbocharged engines produce strange sounds
  • – Turn the vehicle into failsafe mode

How do I fix the P0234 fault code?

  • – Replacing the deficient turbo boost sensor
  • – Replacing wastegate solenoid
  • Replacement of the faulty wastegate device
  • – Repair and replacement bent, clogged wastegate.
  • – Repairing and replacing damaged connectors and cables

How Serious Is the P0234 Fault Coding?

Code P0234 is very serious and must be dealt with immediately. The engine’s structural integrity is at risk because it is not built to withstand high boost pressure. This code must be fixed immediately to avoid transmission and engine damage.
