What is P0246 fault code and what does it mean? What is the description for Turbocharger Wastegate Control Valve A Circuit High malfunction How do you fix the P0246 fault code What are the symptoms and causes for the P0246 fault code

What is the P0246 fault code? What does it signify?

A code P0246 can be issued if the engine controller module (ECM/PCM), detects that the turbocharger’s wastegate solenoid circuit voltage is greater than the manufacturer’s specifications.

The ECM/PCM controls turbo pressure by monitoring the output of the wastegate solenoid (on petrol and diesel engines). The ECM/PCM adjusts the wastegate valve continuously, to varying degrees, taking into consideration engine speed and throttle. This ensures that the turbo pressure remains at the optimal levels. Misfunction code P0246 is issued if the wastegate control solenoid signal voltage exceeds the manufacturer’s specifications. This code is often triggered by an electric fault. Circuit “A” is the primary solenoid in twin turbos. There will also be multiple control solenoids.

P0246 fault code can affect vehicles from Subaru, Peugeot and Ford as well as Saab, Audi and Porsche.

What causes the P0246 Fault code?

Here are some reasons why P0246 should be set:

  • – The wastegate control solenoid circuit A has damaged, burned, disconnected, or corroded wiring.
  • – Open in control circuit (ground circuit), between wastegate / boost control solenoid “A”, and the PCM
  • – Open in power circuit between the wastegate/boostpressure control solenoid A and the PCM
  • – A short to ground within the battery circuit of wastegate/boost pressure control solenoid
  • – Defective boost pressure control solenoid A
  • – Defective turbo pressure sensor
  • – Defective wastegate actuator
  • – Defective or stuck Wastegate
  • – Low probability of ECM/PCM defective ECM/PCM

What are the symptoms of the P0246 Fault Code?

These symptoms may be present if you own a vehicle that has the code P0246:

  • – Illumination for the check engine light
  • On the instrument panel, you will find a warning message.
  • Turbo might not be managed effectively
  • – Lower engine performance
  • – Loss in power during acceleration
  • Depending on the cause, the engine might not idle or stall.
  • – Unusual sounds coming from the turbo (hissing or whistling, clicking, etc.

How to Fix the P0246 Fault Code

The following repairs may be able to resolve the P0246 fault code:

  • – Replacing a faulty wastegate solenoid Val
  • – Repairing and replacing damaged or corroded connectors and cables
  • – Repair of short circuit or open circuit problems
  • – Replacing an obstructed or stuck wastegate

How Serious Is the P0246 Fault Code

The P0246 code can cause the engine to stall at idle or start very hard. The turbo may lose power during acceleration if the wastegate solenoid malfunctions.
