What is the P0296 fault number? What is the Cylinder 12-Additive/Balance (Balance), Fault Failure description? How can you fix P0296 fault codes? What are the symptoms and causes for the P0296 fault code

What is the P0296 Fault code? What does it all mean?

If the powertrain controller module (PCM), detects that the fuel injector for cylinder 12 is performing less than expected and destabilizing engine performance, P0296 is set. This code is set when the crankshaft sensor finds that cylinder 12 does not contribute to engine power and the crankshaft doesn’t accelerate as expected.

This code means that cylinder 12 is experiencing a fuel problem when it ignites. The PCM monitors the increase in crankshaft speeds when the cylinders fire. The PCM will trigger fault code P0296 if it finds that cylinder 12 is producing less than the other cylinders.

The PCM conducts this test in order to check if the fuel injector works properly. A similar test can be performed by an auto mechanic. The engine runs continuously, and each time it starts, it unplugs one of the spark plugs to note the drop in the cylinder. If the difference between cylinders exceeds 10%, it is likely that there is a compression problem. Repair is required for any cylinder with a drop in RPM of more than 10%. Both tests measure crankshaft speed. This problem must be rectified immediately to prevent any further damage.

What is the P0296 Fault Code?

The engine must function correctly if its cylinders fire in the correct order. This is how the engine creates the power necessary to ignite the fuel and get your car moving. This is where the engine’s power comes from.

Below are some reasons to set fault code P0296:

  • – The 12 cylinder injector doesn’t inject enough fuel.
  • – Damage to, or open or short circuit problems with wiring and connectors to the cylinder 12 fuel injectionor
  • Leaky fuel injector
  • Low fuel pressure, low fuel quantity or blocked fuel filter due to a faulty fuel pump or clogged fuel filter
  • Compression problems in cylinder 12 due to rocker, lifter cam, circlip, or cylinder head gasket failures

What are the symptoms of P0296 Malfunction Code?

These symptoms may be present if you own a vehicle that has the P0296 code.

  • – Illumination and control of the check engine light
  • Fluctuations in idle speeds
  • – Engine stumbles or hesitation during acceleration
  • – Higher fuel consumption
  • Engine misfire on 12 cylinder
  • – Sometimes the engine could stall.
  • – Exhaust fumes emitting black smoke

How to Fix the P0296 Fault Code

It is a common error to repair this fault code by replacing the injector without first checking for damage to its circuit. The code must first be deleted. Next, it must be verified that the code will not return. Before replacing the injector, it is important to test the fuel pressure and volume.

There are several repairs that can resolve the P0296 fault code.

  • – Repair or replacement wiring and connectors for the 12 cylinder fuel injection.
  • – Cleaning the fuel injection
  • Repairing a damaged fuel injector
  • Repair of leaked injector gaskets
  • – Replace the fuel filter
  • – Replacing a faulty fuel pump
  • – Repair of malfunctions causing low compression in the cylinder 12
  • Troubleshooting issues with the PCM

How serious is the P0296 Fault code?

This fault code should not be taken lightly as it could cause engine problems. The fault code could cause your vehicle’s performance to suffer. To avoid further damage to your vehicle, it is highly recommended that you have the vehicle diagnosed as soon as possible.
