What is the P0339 Fault code? What does it all mean?
A P0339 diagnostic code (DTC), is a sign of trouble. “Crankshaft Position Sensor “A” Circuit Intermittent . Indicates that the powertrain management module (PCM), has detected an intermittent or zero signal from the crankshaft position sensors.
The crankshaft position sensor plays a critical role in engine management. It measures crankshaft rotational speed as well as position, and sends this information to the PCM to control parameters like fuel delivery and ignition timing.
The sensor is typically located behind the crank pulley at vehicle’s front. It can be mounted on some vehicles in the transmission side of the engine, or at the rear of a flywheel gear.
The crankshaft’s rotation creates electromagnetic changes around the sensor through the shifting of the reluctor rings’ high and low gears. For a brief time, the circuit is interrupted by the recesses between the higher gears. This causes voltage fluctuations in your sensor. The input signals from the sensor are continuously monitored by the PCM. If it detects an irregular or no signal, the PCM sets code P0339. The check engine light will be illuminated if this happens. For the code to be valid, the same error must be repeated at least three times.
Two crankshaft position sensors are available for some vehicles. Circuit “A”, refers to the primary crankshaft positioning sensor.
