What is the P0363 fault number? Misfire Detected- What is the description for the Fuel Supply Disabled fault How do I fix the P0363 fault code What are the symptoms and causes for the P0363 fault code
What is the P0363 Fault code? What does it all mean?
A code P0363 means that the powertrain controller module (PCM), has detected a misfire and shut off fuel supply to the affected cylinder.
It is important to remember that the P0363 fault codes serves two purposes. The first is to report misfires in one or more of the cylinders. The second is to disable fuel injectors in the misfired cylinder.
It doesn’t matter what the cause is, the misfire causes minor fluctuations in the crankshaft’s rotational speed. Modern engines detect crankshaft fluctuations using inputs from the crankshaft positioning sensor. The fuel in the affected piston is not properly ignited, and any unburned fuel will be expelled into its exhaust system.
The catalytic converter reduces the emissions from diesel and gasoline engines. The internal temperature of the catalytic converter reaches up to 425°C (800°Fahrenheit) so that it can effectively reduce emissions levels. The converter can become hot from the heat, and unburned fuel could ignite.
If the PCM detects an abnormal change in camshaft or crankshaft positions, or if the engine speeds are not consistent with the current conditions, it will presume that there has been a misfire in the relevant cylinder. It will then disable the fuel injector and assign fault code P0363.
P0363 fault codes can be found on vehicles made by various manufacturers, such as Toyota, Citroen and Hyundai.
What is the P0363 Fault Code?
These are the most common reasons that P0363 is triggered:
- – Defective spark plug(s)
- – Defective ignition coil(s)
- – Defective spark plug wire
- – Oil or moisture in the spark plug housing
- – Insufficient fuel pressure
- Leakage in the engine vacuum
- – Defective fuel injectors
- – Clogged catalytic convertor
- – Defective EGR system
What are the symptoms of the P0363 Fault Code?
You may experience the following symptoms if your vehicle has the code P0363:
- – Illumination for check engine light
- – Lower engine performance
- – Fluctuations of idle speed
- – Stumbling / hesitating during acceleration
- – Other fault codes for misfires
How to Fix the P0363 Fault Code
P0363 codes are usually associated with ignition system components. These are the components that must be replaced or repaired first in order to diagnose this code. There are many other factors that could cause a misfire in the cylinder, so make sure your mechanic thoroughly inspects it.
There are several repairs that can resolve the P0363 fault code.
- – Replacing defective spark plugs
- – Replacing defective spark plug wires
- – Replacing damaged ignition coils
- – Repair engine vacuum leaks
- – Clean the catalytic convert if it is dirty.
- – Repairing or cleaning fuel injectors that are not working properly
How Serious Is the P0363 Fault Code
The unsafe driving of the vehicle can be compromised by the P0363 code. This code should be addressed immediately and taken seriously. A misfiring cylinder can cause serious engine damage.
