What is the P0460 fault code? What does it all mean?
The PCM is informed in terms voltage about the amount of fuel in a vehicle’s tank. If the voltage signal from a fuel level sensor (FLS), is not equal to the actual fuel level, a code P0460 will be generated. This code can be used even if the voltage signals sent to the computer are not within the factory’s set parameters.
The fuel level sensor can be found above the fuel tank. This sensor is used for monitoring the fuel level within the vehicle’s tank. The main components of the sensor are float, resistor, and actuator.
A float is an oval piece of hollow plastic (or foam), that can be kept on the liquid’s surface. The drive arm is a rod made of metal that connects the float to the resistor. The float changes with the fuel level and activates the drive arm, which is a component that looks like a wiper. This causes the resistance to change, and allows the fuel level to become measured. The PCM uses data from the fuel level sensor as input to determine the amount of fuel in the tank, monitor fuel consumption and track fuel economy.
