What is the P0464 fault number? What is Fuel Level Sensor Circuit Intermittent fault? How do you fix the P0464 fault code What are the causes and symptoms of the P0464 error code?

What is the P0464 fault code? What does it signify?

If the powertrain control module, PCM or body control module, (BCM), detects that the voltage from the fuel level sensor has become intermittent, a code P0464 will be set.

The fuel level sensor is typically mounted on top of the fuel tank module or fuel pump module. It converts the fuel tank level into an electrical signal that is transmitted to the vehicle’s communications bus. This voltage signal is constantly monitored by the PCM. It can determine how much fuel remains in the tank, monitor fuel consumption and calculate the trip computer to make fuel more efficient.

The three major components of the sensor are float, resistor, and actuator.

A float (or float) is an oval-shaped hollow plastic or foam piece that can stick to the liquid’s surface. The drive arm is a rod made of metal that connects the float to the resistor. As the fuel level changes in the tank, the float activates a wiper-like component via a drive arm. This causes the resistance to change to occur and the fuel level is measured.

If the PCM detects that either the voltage signal coming from the fuel-level sensor does not match expected values or is intermittent/interruptive, it will trigger the P0464 error code.

The P0464 fault code can affect vehicles of all makes and models, including but not limited to: Hyundai, Infiniti or Isuzu, Kias, Chevrolet, Mazdas, Mercedes Benz, Nissan, Subaru, and Infiniti.

What causes the P0464 Fault code?

The following are the most frequent causes of the P0464 fault code:

  • – Broken or damaged wires, or loose connectors that cause an open or closed circuit in the fuel level sensor circuit
  • – Defective fuel level sensor
  • – Defective fuel float
  • – Fuel tank that is damaged or stained
  • – If applicable, a defective smart fuse box (or integrated power module)
  • – Low Probability: Defective PCM/BCM

What are the symptoms for P0464 Malfunction Codes?

These symptoms may be present in vehicles with code P0464.

  • – Illumination for the engine fault lamp
  • – A constantly fluctuating fuel gauge that is not working properly
  • – Flashing or constant burning fuel light
  • – Warning signal for running out of fuel
  • – Incorrect calculation by the computer of the trip
  • – The EVAP system can malfunction if there is a constant shortage of fuel.

How do I fix the P0464 fault code?

It is a common error to replace the fuel pump without checking. It is important to check the fuel level sensor and gauge and perform any necessary tests. It is necessary to check the cables and connectors for any signs of a short circuit.

There are several repairs that can resolve the P0464 fault code:

  • – Reparation or replacement of the fuel tanks
  • – Repair or replacement fuel float
  • – Reparation or replacement of fuel level sensor
  • – Replacing fuel level sensor wiring harness
  • – Fixing loose connections in the fuel level sensor circuit
  • – Replace faulty power relays or blown fuse.
  • – Reprogramming or replacing the PCM/BCM if needed after testing (rarely).

How Serious Is the P0464 Fault Code

While this code doesn’t pose any danger to your vehicle, it is important that you fix any mechanical faults as soon as possible. It is possible for your vehicle to run out fuel, so you need to know the exact amount. It is in your best interest to have the vehicle repaired as soon as possible.
