What is P0468 fault code? What is the Purge Flow Circuit High Input fault description? How can I fix P0468 fault code What are the causes and symptoms of the P0468 error code?

What is the P0468 Fault code? What does it signify?

A malfunction code P0468 stands for “Purge Flow Sensor Circuit, High Input” The indicator indicates that a problem has been identified in the drain flow sensors circuit. This is part the EVAP control systems. The powertrain control unit (PCM), which monitors the EVAP’s emission pressure and flow, uses voltage signals from several sensors. The PCM compares the signals to the manufacturer’s parameters. If the PCM detects an excessive voltage signal from drain flow sensor, a code P0468 will be set.

The evaporative emission controller system (EVAP), as you are aware, is responsible for preventing the release of unburned gasoline vapors into atmosphere and reducing vehicle emissions. The system captures unburned fuel vapors and stores them in the canister. When fuel demand rises or the pressure in the EVAP increases, fuel vapors are sent back to the engine for reburning.

The fuel tank/fuel tank module is often home to the purge flow sensor (PFS). The sensor is responsible for converting the EVAP pressure into an electric signal and reporting it to the PCM. This voltage signal is used by the PCM to calculate the fuel that will be sent from the tank and to the engine based on the fuel absorbed from EVAP.

The PCM monitors the voltage signal from drain flow sensor during engine start or ignition switch turn on. If the voltage signal is higher than the manufacturer’s parameters (usually over 4.8V), then the PCM sets fault code 0468.

Vehicles susceptible to the P0468 fault code include but are not limited: various models of Volkswagen and Jeep, Toyota, Mercedes-Benz. Suzuki, Dodge, Chrysler, Dodge, Chrysler.

What causes the P0468 Fault code?

The following are the most frequent causes of the P0468 fault code:

  • – Broken, melted, snapped and shorting wires.
  • – Ground or open in the power circuit of the PFS sensor
  • – Defective PFS sensor
  • Low probability – A PCM is defective or must be reprogrammed.

What are the symptoms of P0468 Malfunction code?

You may experience the following symptoms if your vehicle has the code P0468:

  • – Illumination and operation of the engine fault lamps
  • – EVAP not working
  • If the relief valve is left open, the idle quality can deteriorate. The engine might run unevenly at certain throttle settings. Or, it may stall unexpectedly.
  • – A slight rise in fuel consumption
  • If the vehicle is left in direct sunlight for long periods of time or if the vacuum hoses become dislodged, it may emit a strong fuel smell.
  • – Other fault codes for the EVAP system

How do I fix the P0468 fault code?

When diagnosing code P0468, the most common error is to replace component parts without first checking for leaks or improper installation. Before replacing system components, a thorough diagnostic must be done.

The following repairs may be able to resolve the P0468 fault code:

  • Repair or replace damaged cables and connectors to PFS sensor
  • Repair of an open or short-to-ground in the PFS sensor circuit power circuit
  • – Replacing faulty PFS sensor
  • – Reprogramming or replacement for a defective PCM

How serious is the P0468 Fault code?

Code P0468 is not an issue in and of itself. It is often associated with other codes that are related to the EVAP. You should immediately fix any problems with the vehicle’s pressure system. The EVAP system is primarily designed to reduce vehicle emissions. Failing to install an EVAP system can cause your vehicle to be less environmentally-friendly, and you may have your emissions test fail.
