What is the P0494 fault code number? What is the Fan Speed Low fault code? How do I fix the P0494 fault code What are the causes and symptoms of the P0494 error code?

What is the P0494 fault code? What does it all mean?

If the powertrain control module detects very low voltage signals from the electric radiator cooling fans control circuit, a code P0494 will be activated. This code will be set lower if the radiator cooling fans are not spinning at the PCM specified speeds.

The radiator cooling fan helps to keep the engine coolant at an ideal temperature. It also helps to prevent overheating. The radiator cores cool down as the airflow from front grille is sufficient to keep the car moving at a fast speed. The radiator cools down when the fan comes into play, whether it is at high speeds, stop/start traffic or idle. Some fans move with the V-belt while others use electricity to cool the radiator.

The PCM uses information from multiple sensors to monitor and control the engine’s temperature. When the engine temperature rises (in heavy-traffic, idling), the PCM turns the fan on and off while driving on the highway. The manufacturer will set the fault code P0494 if the cooling fan is rotating at a 10% slower speed than specified.

P0494 fault codes can be found on a variety of vehicles, including but not limited to: Peugeot, Citroen and Porsche models, Honda, Land Rovers, Dodge, Dodge, and Chevrolet.

What is the P0494 Fault Code?

The following are the most frequent causes of the P0494 fault code:

  • – Defective electric radiator cooling fan motor
  • – Defective electric radiator cooling fan relay
  • Faulty connectors or wires to the cooling fan
  • – Defective engine coolant temperature sensor
  • – Electric fan fuse blown
  • – Defective cooling fan control unit

What are the Symptoms of P0494 Fault Code?

You may experience the following symptoms if your vehicle has the code P0494:

  • – Illumination for check engine light
  • – Engine overheating causes an increase in temperature
  • – A decrease in air conditioning performance. Air conditioning related codes can also be adjusted
  • – Engine performance can decrease
  • – Engines might make strange noises
  • – Sometimes, there may be misfires or stalling
  • Fuel consumption could increase

How do I fix the P0494 fault code?

There are a few repairs that could resolve the P0494 fault code.

  • – Replacing electric cooling fan relay
  • – Replace the fuse in the electric cooling fan
  • – Repair damaged wiring and/or electric connections, connectors or open circuits
  • – Repairing an electric cooling fan motor that is not working properly
  • – Replacing the defective cooling unit control unit
  • – Replacing an engine coolant temperature sensor that is defective

How Serious Is the P0494 Fault Code

If the code P0494 is displayed on your vehicle, it means there is an immediate problem. Even if the symptoms are not affecting driving conditions, the code could indicate a serious problem that needs to be fixed immediately. To prevent engine damage and costly repairs, this code must be addressed immediately.
