What is P0495 fault code? What is Fan Speed High failure described? How do you fix the P0495 fault code What are the symptoms and causes for the P0495 fault code

What is the P0495 fault code? What does it signify?

If the powertrain control module (PCM), detects too high voltage signals from the electric radiator cooling fans control circuit, a code P0495 will be activated. This code is used when the radiator cooling fans are not spinning at the desired speeds of the PCM (overspeed).

The radiator cooling fan keeps the engine coolant at an ideal temperature to prevent it from overheating. The radiator cores cool down as the airflow from front grille is sufficient to keep the car moving at a fast speed. The fans cool the radiator during idle, high speeds, and stop/start traffic. Some fans move with the V-belt while others use electricity to cool the radiator.

The PCM uses information from multiple sensors to monitor and control the engine’s temperature. The PCM activates the fan when engine temperature rises (in heavy-traffic, idling), and shuts it down when there is enough air flow (while driving on highway). The manufacturer will set the fault code P0495 if the cooling fan is rotating at 10% faster than the specified parameters.

P0495 fault codes can be found on vehicles made by various manufacturers, including Honda, Toyota and Citroen.

What is the P0495 Fault Code?

These are the most common reasons that P0495 fault codes are triggered:

  • – Defective electric radiator cooling fan motor
  • – Defective electric radiator cooling fan relay
  • – Damaged wires or connectors to cooling fan
  • – Defective engine coolant temperature sensor
  • Blown electric fan fuse
  • – Defective cooling fan control unit

What are the symptoms for P0495 fault code?

These symptoms may be present in vehicles with code P0495.

  • – Illumination for the check engine light
  • – Engine overheating
  • – Air conditioner performance decreases (air conditioning related codes may be adjusted).
  • Engine performance may drop
  • Engine noises can be strange
  • – In some cases, misfires and stalling can occur
  • Fuel consumption could increase

How to Fix the P0495 Fault Code

There are several repairs that can resolve the P0495 fault code.

  • – Replacing electric cooling fan relay
  • – Replace the fuse in the electric cooling fan
  • – Repair of electrical and/or wiring connections, connectors, short or open circuits
  • – How to replace a defective electric cooling fan motor
  • – Replacing the defective cooling fans control unit
  • – Replacing an engine coolant temperature sensor that is defective

How serious is the P0495 Fault code?

If the code P0495 is displayed on your vehicle, it means there is an immediate problem. Even if there aren’t any symptoms, this code can cause your engine to overheat and prevent the cooling system from being checked. This code should be fixed immediately to avoid further damage to the engine.
