What is the P0514 fault number? What is the Battery Temperature Sensor Circuit range/Performance Failure description? How can I fix P0514 fault? What are the symptoms and causes for the P0514 fault code

What is the P0514 fault code? What does it signify?

A P0514 error code means that the battery temperature sensor is not working properly. The tray that holds the battery’s temperature sensor is typically located below it. It measures the temperature of the battery to transmit the data to the powertrain control module. This signal is used by the PCM to determine the time it takes to charge the battery based on its temperature. The PCM also checks the voltage signal from the sensor to see if the ignition switch was on at start-up. Fault code P0514 is issued if the voltage signal coming from the sensor is not in line with the engine operating condition stored in the memory of the PCM.

P0514 fault codes can be found on vehicles made by Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep and Volkswagen.

What is the P0514 Fault Code?

Here are some reasons why P0514 should be set.

  • – Battery temperature sensor failure
  • – Connectors or wires that are damaged, burned, disconnected, or corroded to the sensor.
  • Poor electrical connection to battery temperature sensor circuit
  • – Defective PCM (rarely)

What are the Symptoms of Malfunction Code P0514?

You may experience the following symptoms if your vehicle has the code P0514:

  • – Illumination at the check engine lights
  • – Indicator panel battery charger lamp
  • Low battery charge
  • – Battery overheating

How do I fix the P0514 fault code?

You will need to replace your battery temperature sensor if your vehicle is code P0514. You should check the resistance of your battery temperature sensor, and then compare your results with the manufacturer’s specifications. If the data you provide does not match the manufacturer’s reference voltage, it is likely that the sensor has failed and needs to be replaced. It is easy to make the common error of thinking the battery is defective and not testing it first before replacing it.

These are some of the fixes that can resolve the P0514 fault codes:

  • – Replacing the bad battery temperature sensor
  • Repair or replace damaged, corroded and shorted components, connectors, cables, or other parts to the sensor
  • – Reprogramming or replacement of a faulty PCM
