What is the P0515 fault code What is Battery Temperature Sensor Circuit Malfunction? How do you fix P0515 fault code What are the causes and symptoms of the P0515 error code?

What is the P0515 Fault code? What does it signify?

A P0515 error code means that there is a problem with the battery temperature sensor circuit (BTS). The battery temperature sensor is normally mounted below the battery. It measures the temperature of the battery to transmit the data to the powertrain control module. Based on the battery temperature, this signal is used by PCM to calculate how much to charge. The PCM also checks the voltage signal from the sensor to see if the ignition switch was on at start-up. If the voltage signal from this sensor is not in compliance with manufacturer specifications, code P0515 will be triggered.

The P0515 fault code can affect vehicles of all makes and models, including but not limited to: Honda, BMW, Daihatsu Mercedes-Benz, Jeeps, Chrysler, Dodges, Volkswagen, Ford, Mitsubishi, and Chrysler.

What is the P0515 Fault Code and Why Does It Happen?

Here are some reasons why P0515 should be set.

  • – Battery temperature sensor failure
  • – Shorted, damaged, burnt, disconnected, or corrosion of wires and/or connectors to sensor
  • Poor electrical connection to battery temperature sensor circuit
  • – Engine overheating
  • – Battery terminal corrosion
  • – Defective PCM (rarely)

What are the symptoms for P0515 Fault Codes?

You may experience the following symptoms if your vehicle has the code P0515:

  • – Illumination at the check engine lights
  • – On instrument panel, battery charge lamp
  • Low battery charging
  • – Overheating the battery

How do I fix the P0515 fault code?

You will need to replace your battery temperature sensor if your vehicle is code P0515. You can verify the resistance of the sensor by testing it and comparing your results to the manufacturer’s specifications. If the voltage readings you receive are not in line with the manufacturer’s, your sensor should be replaced. This is the most common error in repairing this code.

There are several repairs that can resolve the P0515 fault code:

  • Repair or replace damaged, corroded and shorted components, wires and connectors to the sensor circuit
  • – Replacing the defective battery temperature sensor
  • – Clean the battery terminals
  • – Reprogramming or replacement for a defective PCM
