What is P0516 fault code and what does it mean? What is the description of the Battery Temperature Sensor Circuit Low fault? How do you fix the P0516 fault code What are the symptoms and causes for the P0516 fault code
What is the P0516 Fault code? What does it signify?
A P0516 code indicates that the BTS circuit is malfunctioning. The tray that holds the battery’s temperature sensor is typically located below it. It measures the temperature of the battery to transmit the data to the powertrain control module. Based on the battery temperature, this signal is used by PCM to calculate how much to charge. To determine if the ignition key is turned on, the PCM also monitors the voltage signal from the sensor.
Temperature is directly proportional to voltage. The temperature is inversely proportional to the voltage signal. A high voltage signal means that the battery has a cold temperature. The PCM sends 5 volts reference signal to sensor. This is ground through the sensor return link. As the temperature rises, the resistance of a sensor decreases, and the voltage signal to the PCM increases.
If the PCM detects voltage signals from the battery temperature sensor, which are lower than those set by the manufacturer, P0516 will be activated.
The P0516 fault code can affect vehicles of all makes and models, including but not limited to Ford, Honda, Dodge, Chrysler, Toyota, Volkswagen, Chrysler, Dodge, Volkswagen, Chrysler and Toyota.
What causes the P0516 Fault code?
Here are some reasons why P0516 should be set.
- – Temperature sensor for defective batteries
- – Shorted, damaged, burnt, disconnected, or corrosion of wires and/or connectors to sensor
- Poor electrical connection to battery temperature sensor circuit
- – Corrosion of battery terminals
- – Engine overheating
- – Defective PCM (rarely)
What are the symptoms of the P0516 Malfunction code?
These symptoms may be present in vehicles with code P0516
- – Illumination at the check engine lights
- – On instrument panel, battery charge lamp
- Low battery charging
- – Battery overheating
How to Fix the P0516 Fault Code
The battery temperature sensor will need to be replaced if the vehicle code is P0516. You should check the resistance of your battery temperature sensor, and then compare your results with the manufacturer’s specifications. If your data is not consistent with the manufacturer’s specifications, the sensor should be replaced. This is the most common error in repairing this code.
You can make the following repairs to fix the P0516 fault code:
- Repair or replace damaged, corroded, or shorted wires, connectors, and other components of the sensor circuit
- – Replacing the bad battery temperature sensor
- – Clean the battery terminals
- – Removing an oxidized battery
- – Reprogramming or replacement of a faulty PCM
