What is the P0566 fault code What is the description of Cruise Control “OFF” Signal Failure? How do you fix the P0566 fault code What are the causes and symptoms of P0566 error code?
What is the P0566 fault code? What does it all mean?
The driver can control multiple functions of the cruise control system. The driver can set a speed for the vehicle and maintain it using multiple sensors, modules, switches, and other components. He or she can also change the speed at any moment. When the brake pedal is pressed the cruise control stops. In such cases, the driver can reactivate that speed.
The speed control button sends an input signal (on/off), start/set (Set), speed increase (Accel), speed decrease (Coast) and continue (Resume / Recall) to the body control (BCM/PCM). This input signal controls the functions of cruise control. It includes on/off (On/Off), set (Set), speed rise (Accel), decrease (Coast), and continue (Resume/Recall). These buttons can vary depending on the vehicle’s make and the application. If the fault code P0566 is detected by the onboard computer, it will be set.
Vehicles susceptible to the P0566 fault code include but aren’t limited to: Toyota, Ford Mercedes-Benz and Subaru models.
What causes the P0566 Fault code?
Fault code P0566 can be triggered by the following common causes:
- Most likely – Cruise control buttons or control switches that are defective (most common)
- – Cruise control control knobs can cause short or open circuit problems from spilled liquids
- – Electrical problems such as corroded connectors or broken wires.
- Broken tabs, worn pins or a swollen connector body
- – Dirty and grime that blocks the adjustment buttons’ functionality
- – Damaged components due to overheating
- – Defective cruise control module
- – Issues related to the PCM (body control module) (water intrusion, internal short circuit, heat, etc.
What are the symptoms of P0566 Malfunction Code?
You may experience the following symptoms if your vehicle has the code P0566:
- – Check that your engine light is on (may be illuminated if the fault persists for several driving sessions).
- – The Cruise Control light is not turning on or turning off on the instrument cluster.
- – The cruise control system doesn’t work
- – Cruise control not set at the desired speed
- – The system’s speed can change even if it is running.
- – The buttons for cruise control adjustment are not working
- Blowing fuse
How to Fix the P0566 Fault Code
The following repairs may be able to resolve the P0566 fault code:
- – Repair and replacement of electrical connectors damaged to the cruise control control buttons
- Repair damaged or broken cables, causing short circuits or open circuits
- – Replacing defective control buttons or the control switch for cruise control
- – Clean the buttons and control buttons of liquid or dirt.
- – Replacing blown fuse
How Serious Is the P0566 Fault Code
This code is considered moderate to low in severity. Even if all functionality of your cruise control system has been lost, you can still drive safely. Repair costs could rise if the fault is not addressed. You may also be at risk if there is an electrical or short circuit problem.
