What is the P0622 fault code? What does it signify?
P0622 is the Malfunction Code. “Generator Area “F” control circuit malfunction . This means that the powertrain controller module (PCM), has detected an issue in the alternator control system.
The alternator’s job is to charge the battery, generate power for the vehicle’s electric system, and do so as long as the engine runs. The alternator lasts between 150 and 200 thousand kilometers. It can last for as long as that. This mileage is too high and it can malfunction. The alternator is constantly checked by the PCM to ensure it is operating properly. Code P0622 is triggered by a faulty voltage signal coming from the alternator’s field coil control circuit.
The field coil is located around the armature of most alternators. This coil is crucial in charging the battery and starting the alternator. The PCM continuously checks the alternator field controller circuit each time the engine starts.
The PCM self-diagnoses multiple times every time you turn on the ignition key. In addition to self-tests and comparing signals from various control module, the PCM uses CAN (Controller Area Network) to do so. Modules may not communicate properly with each other, preventing them from sharing important information between the parts that they control.

Alternator faults are indicated by voltage at the coil’s control terminal.
