What is the P0624 fault number? What is Fuel Cap Lamp Control Circuit Malfunction and what does it mean? How can I fix the P0624 fault? What are the symptoms and causes for the P0624 fault code
What is the P0624 fault code? What does it all mean?
A code P0624 means that the powertrain management module (PCM), detected a problem in the fuel cap lamp controller circuit. The fuel cap lamp is located within the instrument cluster. Its primary function is to notify the driver of a loose, missing, or improperly seated fuel filler cap. If the PCM detects a missing or loose cover, it activates a lamp in the cluster to alert the driver.
When the ignition is turned ON, the PCM activates and the internal controller performs self testing. To ensure proper operation of all modules, the PCM compares signals from each module. The controller area network (CAN), bus is used by the PCM for this purpose.
If the PCM, or any other control modules (body controller module, alternative fuel controller module, ABS control modul, etc.) detects a problem with the fuel cap lamp control circuit, it will set a malfunction code P0624 and activate the check engine light. If the PCM or other control modules (body control module, alternative fuel control module, ABS control module, etc.) detects a problem in the fuel cap lamp controller circuit, it will activate the check engine light and set a malfunction code of P0624. It can take up to two fault cycles before the check engine light illuminates, depending on how severe the condition is.
The P0624 fault code can affect vehicles of all makes and models, including but not limited to Toyota, Hyundai, Rover Kia, Ford Suzuki, Dodge, Jeep Chrysler, GMC, and Chevrolet.
What causes the P0624 Fault code?
Below are some reasons to set fault code P0624:
- – Control circuit for open and shorted fuel cap lamps
- – Cables and connectors that are damaged, melted or broken. This can cause an open or brief circuit in the CAN bus
- Control module ground wire that causes loose and weak electricity
- – Defective, loose or missing fuel cap
- Alarm bulb for fuel cap explosion
- – A PCM is not working properly or has to be reprogrammed
What are the symptoms of P0624 Trouble code?
You may experience the following symptoms if your vehicle has the code P0624:
- – Illumination for the check engine light
- – A warning light for fuel caps is lit
- – Increased fuel consumption
- – Deactivation the evaporative emission systems
- – Other components can also be affected by fault codes
How to Fix the P0624 Fault Code
There are several repairs that can resolve the P0624 fault code.
- – Replacing damaged wires and connectors in the fuel cap control circuit.
- – Replacing damaged fuel tank caps
- – Replacement of any fuel cap that is missing or broken
- – Replace the warning lamp bulb for the fuel cap warning light located in the instrument cluster
- – Repairing damaged, melted or corroded wires and connectors that cause an open circuit or short circuit on the CAN bus.
- – Test control modules
- – Reprogramming and replacing the PCM
How serious is the P0624 Fault code?
While code P0624 doesn’t prevent a vehicle operating safely, it shouldn’t be ignored. A missing or loose fuel cap can cause harmful fuel vapors and fuel contamination. It is better to identify the source of the problem and fix it immediately than to let it fester.
