What is the P0630 fault codes? VIN Not Programmed or Mismatched – What is the ECM/PCM error code description? How do I fix the P0630 fault code What are the causes and symptoms of the P0630 error code?

What is the P0630 fault code? What does it signify?

A code P0630 means that either the engine control module or powertrain control modules (PCM), does not recognize the 17 character vehicle identification number (VIN).

Automakers assign a 17 character number called “VIN” Every car they produce. This number is also known as the chassis number and it is a unique type of vehicle identification number. This sequence of numbers and letters identifies the country of manufacture, year of manufacture, make, model and engine type of each vehicle. The vehicle’s serial number is the last six digits of the VIN. When producing vehicles with OBD-II diagnostics, all vehicles must have the VIN programmed into their ECM/PCM. VINs may be programmed to other modules on some vehicles. This is done to prevent theft of vehicle and module components and to protect the odometer.

Without being programmed to fit the vehicle, system controllers cannot be swapped between vehicles. This application can cause vehicles’ odometers to display incorrectly. It is necessary to reprogram the vehicle’s VIN and mileage if the ECM/PCM has failed.

The ECM/PCM self-tests each time the ignition switch turns on and searches for the VIN. A code P0630 will be set if the ECM/PCM can’t find or recognize the VIN. If this happens, the vehicle won’t start.

There are many vehicles that can be affected by the P0630 fault code, including, but not limited, to Toyota, Ford and Saab models.

What is the P0630 Fault Code?

Here are some reasons why P0630 should be set.

  • – Extended power outage of ECM/PCM
  • – A dead battery
  • – Unprogrammed switching ECM/PCM between vehicles
  • – ECM/PCM programming error
  • – Cable and connector problems
  • – Defective ECM/PCM

What are the Symptoms of P0630’s Fault Code?

You may experience the following symptoms if your vehicle has the code P0630:

  • – Illumination and control of the check engine light
  • – Vehicle does not start at all
  • – Vehicle security systems may be activated
  • – Other related fault codes

How do I fix the P0630 fault code?

The following repairs may be able to resolve the P0630 fault code:

  • Repair or replace any damaged, broken, corroded, or shorted components, cables, and connectors.
  • Reprogramming the ECM/PCM
  • – Replacing an ECM/PCM that is faulty or incompatible
  • – Replacing the dead battery

How serious is the Fault Code P0630?

The set fault code P0630 should not be considered severe, as the ECM/PCM will likely not recognize the VIN.
