What is the P0632 fault number? Odometer Not Programmed – What is the ECM/PCM error code description? How can I fix P0632 fault code What are the symptoms and causes for the P0632 fault code

What is the P0632 Fault code? What does it signify?

While not very common, the P0632 code means that either the engine controller module (ECM), or the powertrain control module, (PCM), is unable or unwilling to read the odometer.

When producing vehicles with OBD-II diagnostics, vehicle mileage must be programmed in the ECM/PCM. Some vehicles allow vehicle mileage to be programmed in other modules (e.g., the Dashboard Control Module). This is done to prevent any tampering with your odometer.

Without programming the vehicle’s mileage, system control cannot be switched between vehicles. This application can cause the vehicle’s odometer not to display correctly and will deceive those who are looking to buy a second-hand car. The vehicle’s mileage must be reprogrammed if the ECM/PCM is damaged.

The ECM/PCM self-tests each time the ignition switch is turned on and compares its instrument cluster odometer to the meter stored in its memory. If the ECM/PCM can’t read the odometer and/or detects that they don’t match the digits stored in its memory, the code P0632 is activated.

Vehicles susceptible to the P0632 fault code include but aren’t limited to various models of Mercedes Benz and Fiat, Ford as well as Suzuki, Ford, Suzuki Jeep, Dodge Chrysler, Crown Victoria and Hyundai.

What is the P0632 Fault Code and Why Does It Happen?

Below are some reasons to set fault code P0632:

  • – Extended power outage of ECM/PCM
  • – A dead battery
  • – Unprogrammed switching ECM/PCM between vehicles
  • – ECM/PCM odometer programming error
  • – Replacing instrument cluster unit
  • – Instrument cluster control module (IPC) programming error
  • – Cable and connector problems
  • – Defective ECM/PCM

What are the symptoms of the P0632 Fault code?

You may experience the following symptoms if your vehicle has the code P0632:

  • – Illumination for check engine light
  • – Odometer intermittently or not working
  • Faulty odometer display
  • – Speedometer inconsistencies
  • – You can activate vehicle security systems
  • – Setting related fault codes

How do I fix the P0632 fault code?

The following repairs may be able to resolve the P0632 fault code:

  • Repair or replace any damaged, disconnected, corroded or shorted components, connectors, and cables.
  • – Reprogramming ECM/PCM
  • – Reprogramming instrument cluster control module
  • – Replacing an incompatible or faulty IPC/ECM/PCM
  • – Replacing dead batteries

How Serious Is the P0632 Fault Code

A P0632 code placed on your vehicle should be taken seriously, especially if the vehicle’s history is not known. Inconsistencies in the odometer can lead to serious registration issues.
