What is the P0633 fault number? How can I fix an immobilizer key not programmed? How can you fix P0633 fault code What are the causes and symptoms for the P0633 fault code
What is the P0633 Fault code? What does it all mean?
Your vehicle’s immobilizer key protects it from theft. It is the same function as the key that you use to open the doors and turn the ignition cylinder. An electronic signal is sent by the immobilizer key’s small chip, which is powered by an internal lithium battery. The chip sends a signal to the powertrain controller module (PCM) when your vehicle is within range. If the code matches the normal, the PCM unlocks your doors and activates start-stop. The doors won’t open if the code matches and the engine isn’t disabled.
Each immobilizer key is equipped with a transponder signal that can be programmed into the appropriate control module (ECM/PCM/anti-theft control module or trunk control module). You must reprogramme the transponder signal for the new key if you lose it or need to replace it. The PCM checks periodically the transponder signal coming from the immobilizer keys and compares it to the signals programmed into anti-theft module. If the PCM determines that the transponder signal is not matching, fault code P0633 can be set.
The P0633 fault code can affect vehicles of all makes and models, including GMC, Dodge Chrysler, Mercedes-Benz Ram, Saab Jeep, Fiat, Cadillac, Chevrolet, and Chrysler.
What Are the Possible Causes of P0633 Fault code?
Below are some reasons to set fault code P0633:
- – Low or dead key battery for immobilizer
- – Defective immobilizer key
- – Vehicle immobilizer key not programmed
- – ECM/PCM programming error
- – Defective anti theft control module
- – Corroded, damaged, burned, shorted or disconnected wiring and/or connectors
- – Defective contact cylinder
- – Defective PCM / ECM
What are the symptoms for P0633 fault code?
You may experience the following symptoms if your vehicle has the code P0633:
- – Illumination for the check engine light
- – Immobilizer light on
- Door locks are not opening
- – The alarm system of your vehicle can be activated
- – Engine not running
- – Setting related fault codes
How do I fix the P0633 fault code?
There are several repairs that can resolve the P0633 fault code.
- – Replacing immobilizer battery
- – Replacing an immobilizer key that is defective
- – ECM/PCM replacement/reprogramming according to the key
- Repair or replacement of damaged cables and connectors
- – Replacing the defective contact tube
How serious is the P0633 Code of Fault?
This code is important to remember if there is an issue with the immobilizer switch, or the PCM. In order to prevent injury, the engine cannot be started and the doors locked. It is possible that the problem cannot be solved by simply diagnosing, repairing or resetting the system. The vehicle ID (Chassis Num / VIN), vehicle mileage, and anti-theft settings might need to be reset before it can be started.
