What is P0649 fault code and what does it mean? What is the definition of Cruise Control Lamp Control Circuit Malfunction (P0649 fault code)? How can I fix P0649 fault code What are the causes and symptoms for the P0649 fault code

What is the P0649 fault code? What does it all mean?

A code P0649 is issued if the powertrain control module or one of its supporting control modules detects fault in the cruise controller lamp circuit. This code will turn on the check engine light. However, for some vehicles the malfunction may not occur within 8 driving cycles.

The following control modules will also detect the fault and trigger the code:

  • – Body control module
  • – Fuel injection control module
  • – Alternative fuel control module
  • – Turbo control module
  • – Anti-lock brake controller module
  • Anti-theft Module
  • – Instrument cluster control module
  • – Cruise control module
  • – Traction control Module
  • Distance warning control module
  • – Climate control module

You will find the speed control lamp on your instrument panel. It is responsible for advising the driver when cruise control is activated (lit). Also known as cruise control, the cruise control system is also known as cruise control. The PCM monitors speed control lamp circuits every time the ignition switch switches on. Cruise control is activated by the driver and uses input signals from the vehicle’s speed sensor (VSS), or wheel speed sensors, to regulate the vehicle’s speed.

The controller runs self-tests every time the ignition switch is turned on. It also compares data from different controllers in order to verify that it is working. The fault code P0649 is used to indicate a fault in the speed control lamp circuit.

P0649 fault codes can be found on vehicles that include many models of Mercedes-Benz and Ford as well as Chevrolet, Fords, Fords, Dodges, Fords, Jeeps, Hyundais, Hondas and Chryslers.

What causes the P0649 Fault code?

Here are some reasons why P0649 should be set.

  • – Blown speed control bulb
  • – Speed control lamp circuit circuit: Open or short circuit
  • Blown Fuses
  • – Broken, damaged, fused or broken wires, loose and rusty connections in the CAN bus wiring harness
  • – Defective CAN bus
  • – Ground wires that are not connected to the control module or damaged wires
  • – Any PCM or other control module that is faulty or needs to be reprogrammed

What are the symptoms of P0649 Malfunction Code?

You may experience the following symptoms if your vehicle has the code P0649:

  • – Illumination at the check engine lights
  • – Speed control lamp doesn’t illuminate but may flash or be constantly on
  • – The cruise control system may not function
  • – Setting related fault codes

How to Fix the P0649 Fault Code

The following repairs may be able to resolve the P0649 fault code:

  • – Repair of damaged components, connectors, and wiring in the speed control lamp control circuit
  • – Replace blown fuse (it is important to investigate why the fuse blows).
  • – Repair or replacement for the defective CAN bus harness
  • – Repair and replacement of ground wires
  • – Replacing your blown speed control lamp
  • – Replacing defective control modules
  • – Replacing/reprogramming the PCM

How serious is the P0649 Fault code?

All fault codes relating to control modules must be treated seriously. Fault code 0549 is a combination of an illuminated speed control light or an intermittent check engine lamp. However, the cruise controller system might not function. It is a good idea for the code to be repaired as soon as possible.
