What is the P0655 fault code What is Engine Temperature Lamp Overput Control Circuit Malfunction? How do you fix the P0655 fault code What are the symptoms and causes for the P0655 fault code

What is the P0655 Fault code? What does it signify?

A code P0655 will be issued if either the powertrain controller module (PCM), or any of its related control modules detects an inconsistent voltage signal from the engine temperature lamps output control circuit control circuit voltage signals.

The engine temperature lamp is designed to alert the driver when the engine heats up. It is located on the instrument panel, where it can be easily seen by the driver. The engine coolant temperature sensor informs the PCM when the engine is turned on or off. This data is used primarily for engine fuel delivery calculations and ignition timing strategy. It is then sent directly to the instrument cluster control controller and/or the engine temperature lamps. Data can also reach other control modules. This information could be used to send data to climate control modules to turn off the air conditioner when the engine heats up. The code P0655 is issued to the PCM and other control modules if there is a problem with an engine temperature lamp output control circuit.

P0655 fault code can affect vehicles from various manufacturers, including: Chrysler, Dodge Jeep Chrysler, Alfa Romeo Ford Toyota Saab Mercedes-Benz Subaru Fiat Honda Opel and Chevrolet.

What is the P0655 Fault Code and Why Does It Happen?

Below are some reasons to set fault code P0655:

  • – Blown temp bulb bulb
  • – Broken wires, short circuit problems, or poor electrical connection to temperature lamp circuit
  • – Temperature sensor for defective coolant
  • – Open or brief circuit between PCM, instrument cluster or other controllers
  • – Broken, damaged, melted wires, or corroded connectors to coolant sensor
  • – A PCM that is not working properly or has to be reprogrammed (rarely).

What are the P0655 Malfunction Code Symptoms

These symptoms may be present in vehicles with code P0655

  • – Illumination at the check engine lights
  • – The temperature light turns on regardless of the engine temperature.
  • – The temperature light doesn’t come on when the engine is hot.
  • – Intermittent flashing in the temperature lamp
  • – Different drivability issues
  • – Engine running very hard or not at all

How do I fix the P0655 fault code?

The following repairs may be able to resolve the P0655 fault code:

  • Repair of damaged, corroded or melted cables.
  • – Replacing or cleaning loose or corroded connectors
  • Replacing a blown temp lamp bulb
  • – Replacing the defective coolant temperature sensor
  • – Replacement of or reprogramming a defective PCM

How serious is the P0655 fault code?

The P0655 code should not be considered serious because it can cause many driveability problems and won’t alert the driver if your engine is overheating. This code should be fixed as soon as possible to prevent serious engine damage.
