What is P0656 fault code and what does it mean? What is Fuel Level Output Circuit Malfunction? How can I fix P0656 fault code What are the causes and symptoms of the P0656 error code?

What is the P0656 fault code? What does it all mean?

A code P0656 is triggered if the powertrain control module, PCM or one of its related modules detects an anomaly in the fuel level output voltage signal.

The driver’s instrument cluster contains the fuel level indicator. This indicator allows you to monitor the fuel level of your engine while it is running. The PCM uses data from your fuel level sensor to monitor the fuel pressure and temperature, and calculate how many miles you can drive on remaining fuel. This data is also shared with instrument cluster control module and/or fuel level gauge. This information can be sent to other control modules, such as the fuel warning lamp. A code P0656 is set if the PCM or any other control modules detects a problem in the fuel level gauge output circuit.

The P0656 fault code can affect vehicles of all makes and models, including but not limited to: Ford, Daewoo Peugeot, Mercedes-Benz, Mercedes-Benz, Subaru, Mitsubishi Dodge, Chrysler, Chevrolet Holden Fiat, Chrysler, Daewoo, Daewoo, Daewoo, Daewoo, Daewoo, Mercedes-Benz, Mercedes-Benz, Mercedes-Benz, Mercedes-Benz, Subaru, Mitsubishi, Dodge Jeep, Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep Chrysler, Chevrolet, Holden, Mercedes-Benz, Saturn.

What is the P0656 Fault Code?

Here are some reasons why P0656 should be set.

  • – Short circuits or damaged wires, melted, or broken to the fuel level output circuit
  • – Connectors that are loose or corroded
  • Lamp bulb for explosion-proof fuel warning
  • – Defective fuel level sensor
  • – Fused, damaged, or broken wires, or corroded, loose connections to the fuel level sensor
  • – Open and short circuit between the PCM and instrument cluster/other control modules
  • – A PCM that is not working properly or has to be reprogrammed (rarely).

What are the symptoms of P0656 Malfunction Code?

These symptoms may be present in vehicles with code P0656.

  • – Illumination for the check engine light
  • – Faulty or inoperative fuel level gauge
  • – The fuel warning light does not turn on when the fuel is almost out.
  • – The fuel warning lamp will flash or turn on when the tank has reached its maximum capacity.
  • – Incorrect calculation of the trip computer (remaining gasoline, mileage, etc.).
  • – Other fault codes for the fuel system

How to Fix the P0656 Fault Code

The following repairs may be able to resolve the P0656 fault code:

  • Repair of damaged, corroded or melted cables.
  • – Replacing or cleaning loose or corroded connectors
  • – Replacing a blown warning lamp bulb for fuel
  • – Replacing a faulty fuel level sensor
  • – Replacement of or reprogramming a defective PCM

How Serious Is the P0656 Fault Code

Although it does not affect vehicle operation, a code P0656 may cause fuel gauge malfunctions or incorrect display. This code is moderately serious as it could cause fuel to run out and leave you stranded.
