What is the P0701 fault number? What is the Transmission System Range/Performance fault description? How do you fix the P0701 fault code What are the symptoms and causes for the P0701 fault code

What is the P0701 Fault code? What does it all mean?

The code P0701 indicates that the powertrain controller module (PCM), has detected a problem with an automatic transmission control system-related sensor, solenoids or switch. When the transmission control module, (TCM), fails to select or engage the correct gear, the PCM logs fault codeP0701.

This code can only be used on automatic transmission vehicles. Most vehicles have the transmission control integrated into their PCM. However, some vehicles have a separate transmission control module (TCM). This code may be displayed on manual transmission vehicles. The PCM might have been programmed incorrectly or is faulty.

There are many vehicles that fall prey to the P0701 fault code, including models from Honda, Mazda and Mercedes, Volkswagen, Toyota and Saab.

What causes the P0701 Fault code?

Here are some reasons why P0701 should be set.

  • – Low transmission oil
  • – Faulty or dirty transmission oil
  • – Defective transmission sensor
  • – Transmission control system: Open or short circuit
  • – Broken cables or loose connectors
  • – Gearbox problems mechanical
  • – Defective torque converter
  • – Defective transmission control module
  • – Defective shift solenoid
  • – A defective or incorrectly programmed computerM

What are the symptoms of P0701 Malfunction code?

You may experience the following symptoms if your vehicle has the code P0701.

  • – Illumination at the check engine lights
  • – PCM places the tool into safe mode (Limp Mod)
  • – Irregular gear changes
  • – Increased fuel consumption
  • – Gearbox slip
  • – Delayed gear changes
  • – The gearbox is overheated
  • – Engine stalling
  • Transmission fluid leaks
  • – Other transmission related fault codes can be set

How do I fix the P0701 fault code?

  • Repair or replace damaged cables, connectors, or components
  • If transmission fluid is not present, top it up and replace any that is dirty or faulty.
  • Repair of transmission fluid leaks
  • – Replace the defective transmission sensor
  • – Repair all short and open circuits in the transmission control unit
  • – Repair of gearbox mechanical problems
  • – How to replace a defective torque converter
  • – Replacing faulty shift solenoid switches
  • If your vehicle has a manual transmission, you can replace the PCM or reprogram it.

How Serious Is the P0701 Fault Code

The severity of P0701 codes varies depending upon the cause. You can temporarily use the vehicle if it is due to a sensor or solenoid malfunction. The transmission may have to be replaced or repaired if it is a problem caused by oil shortages.

You will notice a shift that is jerkier if your vehicle has the code P0701. This is because the transmission control switch goes into limp mode. This mode causes the transmission pump pressure to rise significantly. This mode is not recommended for long-term use. This fault should be fixed as soon as possible.
