What is P0704 fault code? What is Clutch Switch Input Circuit Malfunction described? How can you fix P0704 fault code What are the causes and symptoms of the P0704 error code?
What is the P0704 Fault code? What does it signify?
This code is valid only for vehicles with manual transmission. The fault code P0704 will be logged if the powertrain control module, PCM, does not detect any change in the clutch switch’s voltage signal (clutch sensor or clutch switch) when the clutch pedal is depressed.
The PCM electronically monitors some functions of the manual transmission. These functions include clutch position and gear position. In some models, the output speed and turbine shaft input speed can also be monitored to determine whether there is any clutch slippage.
The clutch connects the engine to its transmission. The clutch pressure plate is activated when the clutch pedal is depressed. Push the clutch pedal in, and then release the flywheel. The engine and transmission are then disconnected, and the flywheel is released.
The primary function the clutch switch serves is to stop the vehicle from starting when it is in gear. It cuts off the start sign when the vehicle goes into gear. The engine will not start until the clutch pedal has been depressed. The PCM and other modules also use it for engine calculations, automatic stopping functions, hill start aid, and start-stop applications.
Fault code 0704 is due to the input circuit for the clutch switch. The voltage signal from the clutch switch to PCM drops to low when the driver presses down on the clutch pedal. If the voltage signal does not change, the PCM will indicate that the clutch switch is defective and assign code P0704.
There are many vehicles that fall prey to the P0704 fault code, including models from Honda and Mazda, Mercedes-Benz, Volkswagen, Alfa Romeo, Kia, Audi, Ford and Volkswagen.
What is the P0704 Fault Code?
Below are some reasons to set fault code P0704.
- – A defective clutch switch
- – Short or open circuit in the clutch circuit
- – Broken wires or loose connections to the clutch switch circuit
- – The clutch switch was not properly adjusted
- – Damaged clutch pedal lever
- – Blowing the fuse for the clutch switch
What are the symptoms for P0704 Malfunction Codes?
You may experience the following symptoms if your vehicle has the code P0704.
- – Illumination for check engine lights
- – The engine is not starting or it is running intermittently.
- – Start the engine by pressing the clutch pedal.
- – Increased engine speed when the engine is idle
- – Increased fuel consumption
- – The trapction control system might be disabled
- Safety functions may not function or malfunction on certain models
How do I fix the P0704 fault code?
- – Replacing the defective clutch switching
- – Re-adjustment a faulty clutch switching
- – Repairing damaged cables and connectors to clutch switch circuit
- – Repair of short and open circuits that are related to the clutch circuit.
- – Check all system fuse and replace any blown ones as necessary.
How serious is the P0704 Fault code?
The P0704 fault code can cause a variety of traction control, safety and driving functions to be disrupted. This code should be immediately dealt with.
While the symptoms of P0704 might not seem serious, they can make manual transmission vehicles not start. This can lead to other problems if the clutch is not depressed. Additionally, the fuel-saving feature of the start-stop may be impaired and the vehicle could roll back down slopes.
