What is the P0705 fault codes? What does Transmission Distance Sensor Circuit Malfunction or PRNDL Input refer to? How can you fix P0705 fault codes? What are the symptoms of the P0705 error code?
What is the P0705 fault code? What does it mean
A code P0705 means that either the Engine Control Module / ECU or Transmission Control Module (TCM) have received an error from the Transmission Distance Sensor. Also known as Transmission Position/Position Sensor or ECU (ECM/ECU), Park Neutral Position switch, PNP, gear selector switch or PRNDL input switch, the TRS sensor is also called Transmission Position/Position Sensor/TPS (TPS), Transmission Position/Position Sensor/ECU (ECM/ECU) and Transmission Control Module/TCM (TCM). The transmission distance sensor reports the gear position to either the ECM (TCM) or TCM. Some sensors are located in the transmission body, while others are usually outside the transmission.
If the ECU/TCM cannot receive a voltage from the transmission distance sensor, or receives data not logically feasible, the code P0705 is set. A fault code P0705 will be issued if the vehicle is moving at 60 km/h but the transmission distance sensor reports to the ECU/TCM that the vehicle is in reverse. A fault code can also be triggered if the vehicle travels at 90 km/h but the sensor informs TCM/ECU that the vehicle has parked. If the sensor transmits signals that indicate that the vehicle is in multiple gears at the same moment, the P0705 fault code will occur.
Related fault codes are P0706,P0707 and P0708; P0708 is P0708; P0708 is P0708; P0708 is P0708; P0708is P0708
What are the Possible Causes for the P0705 Fault code?
As the vehicle ages and gets more miles, the TRS sensor is more susceptible to failure. The sensor can corrode from exposure to the elements and adverse weather conditions. The following are some of the possible reasons for a sensor reading that is incorrect or missing:
- – Broken wires, connectors or loose connections in transmission range sensor circuit
- – Defective transmission valve body
- Incorrectly adjusted transmission mountings
- Dirty transmission oil
- – Defective transmission range sensor (Transmission position / position sensor)
- – TCM/ECM Defective
What are the symptoms for P0705 Malfunction Codes?
Drivers can notice performance problems caused by fault code P0705. These are the signs you should be looking out for
- – Continuous illumination, flashing or continuous illumination of the checkengine light
- – Delay or hard gear changes
- – The vehicle is not shifting into the gear
- – Vehicle stuck in gear
- – Incorrect gear changes
- Faulty PRNDL display at instrument cluster
- Reversing lights are not working
- – Vehicle operation is restricted to neutral or park positions
- – Sometimes the vehicle won’t start. In these cases, you may have to adjust the gear lever to get the vehicle started.
- – High fuel consumption
How to Fix the P0705 Fault Code
There are many reasons to resolve the P0705 fault. These are some of the possible causes.
- If damaged or short-circuited, all cables within the TRS circuit must be inspected.
- – Replacing the faulty TCM
- – Replacing the ECM that is defective
- – Change the transmission fluid and filter
- – Reparing the wiring connections between the gear lever and derailleur
What’s the significance of the P0705 fault code?
Fault code P0705 does not pose a danger enough to cause death. It can cause the vehicle not to start. The vehicle may go into protection mode (Limp) or experience problems such as improper gear changes, poor engine performance, or it could stop working altogether. It is highly recommended that the problem be fixed as soon as possible.
